In 5-player hoops, Canada just dropped a 70-65 decision to Australia.

Bridget Carleton led the way with 19 points, along with 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block. She was 5-7 from 3pt.
That sounds like a pretty complete stat line!

Odd first two sets in men’s beach. USA controls set 1, Brazil dominates set 2. Partain with some questionable decision making in set 2.

Local news yesterday featured 2 Canadian gymnasts both of whom are committed to Iowa. Good for them. It gave me vibes that they are latching on to that story in case the CC thing fades (if they will ever let that happen). Maybe I'm a little butthurt. I'm in part of the state that is in neither immediate footprint of Iowa or ISU and maybe they are more fair than I'm giving them credit for but we couldn't hear about Shayok's impact on South Sudan without mentioning Jok also had a couple points. I don't catch the local news everyday but must have missed the segments on Hakeem or Lazard etc. when they can't mention past players without giving equal billing to the Hoks. Rant over.

Is there a rule in Olympics golf against showing the leaderboard? I've been watching for several minutes and haven't seen it yet (edit- they just finally showed it).
It's a time zone delay thingamajig or whatnot.

Some computer problem maybe? Most of the sports that you watch at the Olympics comes from what is called the "international feed." Many commentators on NBC and their cable channels are in a studio somewhere in Connecticut describing the action and using the international feed that provides the camera angles and scorebugs.

I knew a few women who were big into field hockey back in the day. This influenced what I expected to see in the match today. The attractiveness of these women far exceeds what I had pictured in my head.

3X3 hoops is kinda tough for me to get interested in. For most all other Olympic events I feel confident the athletes are the best in the world at what they do.

I suspect there could be thousands of 3X3 teams put together that are better than those competing.

Sorry

I'm sure there are, especially when talking about the American team. I wasn't paying super close attention to the US selection process for this but didn't you have to be in a 3x3 league to even be considered? I don't know if that was just an American selection criteria or world wide but it wouldn't surprise me if they intentionally put in criteria like that to prevent America from dominating the event. I think the entire concept of the event is to give smaller countries a shot at competing in basketball but that goes away if you allow the US to field a team of LeBron, Durant, and Curry.

Biles had a poor uneven bars (for her). In 3rd spot with 2 events left.

It's international. Basically on your 4-player team you have to have two players ranked top-10 in your country and two ranked top-50. Players who never play international 3x3 competitions will never get those points.

This article explains it well.
