Some bonkers numbers in there, mostly due to the competition, but still

the >2.0 Steal to Turnover ratio AS A TEAM is insane. They've taken care of the ball really well for how fast they've played - but I do expect that to change - Gilbert and Jones are a bit loose with the ball at times. While the steal rate won't stay > 20%, I expect they'll stay in the top 10.

The other crazy thing is that opponents are taking a huge # of 3s and we are taking very few. I expect we'll take more as competition heats up - but opponents will continue to take a ton

Ironic enough Hoiball teams (or teams playing like Hoiball teams that night) have been the most dangerous thing for the Cyclones to play against the past few years. The Pitt game is a perfect example of that -- a team not even trying to penetrate the "no-middle" defense and bombing away from three and most of them going in and then forcing an offensively-challenged team to play from behind and it doesn't work.

I was thinking that too - but looking at the numbers we really didn't shoot many 3s last year - averaging < 20 attempts per game for the first time since pre-Fred.
That's interesting. So we shot less last year than TJs first year? That's shocking with Brockington being our primary scorer

Completely agree, and that is very ironic. Mizzou did that to us last year to (14-30 from deep), although that game was bad all around

Yes, over 100 fewer.

TJ's first year there were 6 players with at least 70 attempts, or 2.5 per game (Gabe, Grill, Hunter, IB, Jaz & Tre). Last year we had 4 (Gabe, Grill, Jaz and Hughes). Both years no one else took 1 per game. We'll probably only have 4 this year, I'd guess, and that's assuming Tamin takes that many.

Expanding on Evan's rankings a little bit... Tamin is a top 10 player and ISU is a top 10 team

Also, sidenote. I'll be very interested to see if Houston can compete with Kansas for a conference title. I actually think they have the better roster. KU has tons of talent in the starting 5 but lack depth and shooting imo. They're more used to a Big 12 schedule so that's a nice advantage but without the double round robin that advantage definitely is lessened.

If Lipsey wouldn't have torn his ACL heading into his prep sophomore year and then effectively lost an entire AAU cycle due to COVID after getting healthy; he would have had so much more fanfare when he arrived on campus.

Glad that talent decided to stay home and awesome to see that talent take off.

This might have kept the blue blood wolves off him, though.

I don’t know if we’ve ever had a more rock solid commitment than Tamin.

I sure hope so and that continues.

If somebody with a money-printing machine is willing to throw something close to seven figures at Tyrese Hunter... and Tamin is at worst just as good as Hunter if not better... then eek.

I'd love nothing more than Tamin to be a Cyclone for life despite those temptations.

As long as we can keep the offer in the neighborhood I think players like Tamin would rather stay then go to the highest bidder. But if someone is willing to give him 1 mil then we have no chance.

Basketball is a different animal than football, but I'd be surprised if Houston doesn't wear down a bit with the grind.
