2022 NCAA FB Coaching Carousel

Outside of the superpowers in CFB. How many defensive coaches work out versus offensive coaches? Witht he way the game is called and trending. I'm always picking the best offense and then worrying about defense after that.

I could see that...and Purdue definitely was in that state of mind with their past coaches. However, they might feel they need to be an outlier to remain relevant? Or...this guy is just that impressive?

The replies to that thread are not great.

I’m not sure what they expected.

Sometimes I think I subscribe to 247 just to follow coaching searches of random teams. It’s great entertainment.

It strikes me as an underwhelming hire but you never know. Like the poster above, I’m definitely prejudiced against the defensive background guys as HCs.

In the NFL, offensive coordinator experienced head coaches are way more successful.

Probably NCAA as well.

I would almost always prefer an offensive background to a defensive one.

Especially with how the rules favor offense more now.

That being said, Saban came from the defensive side of the ball.......

It seems like this is a cyclical type thing...different eras. One could assume hiring a defensive-minded HC would be a prudent thing to do in an effort to slow the high-powered opposing offenses that seem to be the rage. Although...Purdue is not in a conference/division that has a "high powered" offense!

Meanwhile in Starkville, I can't imagine how the AD is dealing with Leach's passing and now having to find his replacement quickly.....
This might sound tasteless but that's the reality that the show must go on.

Honestly, it could be the return of Dan Mullen...

They are without an AD right now.

I think they almost HAVE to make the AD hire first or just roll with an interim for next year.
With how outrageous salaries have become, and with the sorrow of the event that forced this situation, the prudent thing would be to go with an interim off the current staff.
