2018 Cap City League

My observations from tonight and first time ever going:

THT: looked tired, like he just finished a workout or something. Half the time he didn't cross half court on offense and just watched his teammates play. Unreal skill, I know he's going against low level talent, but he can dribble and pass like a point guard.

Lewis- looked like he didn't care to be there tonight. Didn't really see him smile or enjoy himself. He has such a beautiful shot and I hope it continues where it left off last year.

Conditt- He is going to be a great personality for this team. Always smiling and a hell of a lot more skilled than I thought he would be. Runs the floor really well and has a great shot. Has more muscle on him than I would have thought. Very surprised by him. I think he will be a great addition long term.

Haliburton- He reminds of me a ball hawking defensive back. He is always around the ball and getting hands on it. He talks a lot and was smiling most of the time. Has 0 muscle on him. Like idk if I have ever seen someone that skinny. If he doesn't redshirt then I have no idea what it takes to redshirt anymore because it would benefit everyone!

Jacobson- I think he will be a nice player. Runs the floor well and seemed to have fun with his team. He seems to almost have a hitch in his shot like Jakolby did but he was relatively effective with it. I think he will come off the bench and be one of those hard nosed kids that just piss people off.

Overall, most of the team was there minus Zoran and of course Babb and Cam. They all seemed to have a lot of smiles on their faces and really enjoying themselves minus Lewis. You can definitely see the chemistry on the team. Haliburton and Jacobson seemed to have great chemistry together.

Sure it is summer league, but his skill, willingness to pass/make the best play, and court vision are very promising for when it really matters.

I agree. Ejim and Naz Long showed what they could be in Cap City before they even donned an Iowa State uniform, and in the end their Cap City performance as high schoolers was more indicative of future performance than their freshman year at Iowa State.

I suspect THT is tired because he’s dropping weight and Conditt is happy because he gets to eat everything.

My thoughts after going to my first CCL of the season:

THT is going to be really good and he’s going to play a lot. Possibly a starter right away. He loves taking tough fadeaways but he can make them.

Conditt is very smooth and mobile. He’s not uncoordinated at all for a tall freshman. That’s exciting. He almost had an unbelievable coast to coast poster dunk but he missed it. I’d post the miss but I don’t know how to do that without posting it to twitter or Instagram first which I don’t want to do because he missed. Very impressive miss though. I thought he should redshirt but I’ve backed off on ghat opinion. He could help some this year if needed.

Haliburton was impressive. He’s going to be fun to watch in transition. Great passer and he probably had 4-5 dunks tonight. Blocked 3-4 shots but I never had the camera up because they were unexpected. He has a bright future here. Unlimited potential. (Conditt as well)

Jacobson was good. Shot looked nice tonight. Great rebounder. He and Haliburton played really together. Really high basketballs IQ. You could hear him and Haliburton talking on defense all night which is cool to see for it just being CCL.

Lewis was a little disappointing but I’m not concerned. I still think he has a chance to have an improved season. His length, athleticism and potential ability to make 3’s will always give him a chance.

Thanks for your videos. Always enjoy them and rarely make the trek to west Des Moines from se Iowa so they come in handy.

@tyler24, I haven't seen Haliburton yet, but do you happen to know/ remember Ronnie Virgil? He is the skinniest guy I ever remember playing ISU BB. Thanks for the write up though nice to get takes on the various players.
Nope... Too young for him. Haliburton has no muscle tone. I have truly never seen anything like it. He looks like a long distance runner. It is gonna take a ton of work to put muscle on him. However, with the effort he put in a pick up game, I bet he has an amazing work ethic.

There are a lot of different personalities on the team. Not everybody is going to express themselves in the same way. Naz never smiled on the court during his first summer because he was focused on playing defense and making life miserable for the guy he was guarding.

Just expressing my observatuons
Conditt was trying to mess with him a lot of the game and it didn't work. Even off the court he didn't appear to smile too much. I hope it is because he is just an intense person because he didn't seem to enjoy the environment like everyone else.

If you have the video on your phone, you can upload it straight to a youtube account. It will generally retain far higher quality than either instagram or twitter.

Before Jameel McKay ever played an official game, I always wondered if he was going to be tough enough because he was so smiley and fooling around during Cap City games. I even asked Matt A about it once at a CF event. He thought it was so funny that he called McKay right then and there to tell him that a fan didn't think he was tough enough.

Good analysis.
