Don't get the lack of interest with this game. Saw a proposal that the winner of the 3rd place game gets automatic qualification for the next WC. I don't remember the 3rd place match being this dumb in the past.

I think it all has to do with it being between two teams that had legit aspirations of winning the cup. It wasn’t teams that were just happy to have made the last 4 and wanted to play another. This wasn’t Croatia and Morocco out there today.

As far as the AQ, I don’t think that would have made a difference. If the teams are to the point of not caring about the bronze, they’re probably not at the level they have to worry about qualifying. So they still weren’t going to play their stars. While the World Cup trophy is considered more important than the club season, the bronze medals are not.
