MLB: 2015 Minnesota Twins thread

Berrios is not being called up. Sad.

Are the Twins just trying to extend control over his contract or does the September call ups not effect that? e.g. the Cubs delaying bring up their stud power hitter this spring.

They have him on a specified inning count and he will hit that in AA ball with his next start.

Twins have won 9 of 11! Why must they toy with me. Unfortunately, the Rangers look to be just as hot and I don't see the Yankees or BlueJays tanking.

Who would have thought the Twins would be in the race come September. Sano makes me so excited for the future. Hope they have a fruitful offseason.

Its not about team control or money, it doesn't make any difference this late in the season. Not calling him up is about number of innings pitched and reluctance to use him out of the pen. If they need a starter for some reason (injury etc.) the rest of the way it seems pretty likely he will get his chance unless they are out of the playoff race by that point.

The Sox had to walk Dozier to load the bases and setup a force at home. With first base open, they needed to give themselves a chance to get an out somewhere and possibly get a double play, home to first.

Daily reminder: Miguel Sano is fun.

The bigger issue is finding a spot for him on the 40 man roster to enable a call up. He doesn't have to be added until november 2016. As stacked as the Twins farm system is, they are concerned about exposing another valuable player to the Rule 5 draft this November as they can't protect everyone that they would like to. In the end, it would probably only delay the roster squeeze from November until March since Berrios is a good bet to make the 27 man roster next spring.

If the bullpen settles in over the next week or if the Twins tank and slip behind 4 or 5 teams, they probably pass on calling up Berrios. If they determine that he can be the difference maker in the wild card chase, expect to see him finish September with the Twins

Kind of surprised they haven't brought Arcia back up. Definitely not saying he should be out in the field but he's another solid bench bat along with Vargas. He had a pretty solid year last year all things considered, Twins must be sick of his inconsistency.

Sano named AL Rookie of the Month for August.

Slashed .278/.377/.629 (1.006! OPS), 7 2B, 9 HR, 26 RBI.

Of his 27 hits, 16 were extra bases.

Arcia has fallen apart this year. He is batting 202 in Rochester.

A: .279/.347/.518
B: .295/.403/.608
Correa is A
Sano is B

If the Twins stay in the hunt through September, he may just get enough national spotlight to overcome Correa's initial hype.

Even worse - .101 in the last 30 days. The outfield also gets more crowded in a few days with Hicks returning from the DL. Buxton probably slides into a pinch runner / late inning defense role while Hunter sees even more of the bench.

I don't care what Hunter does the rest of the season, but I would put him as team MVP. Not for his production, but for his clubhouse presence. I'm 100% convinced that without him, the Twins would already be out of playoff contention. His attitude in dealing with losing streaks and keeping the team loose is beyond measure. Honestly, the Twins roster is not much different his year than last year (sans Sano), but they are way better than last years team. I give Hunter and Molitor 99% of the credit for that.

If Hunter wants to play one more year and is willing to have a low salary and a bench roll, I'm all for it. Let him be the 4th or 5th outfielder if it only costs them a couple million. With Rosario, Buxton and Hicks starting, Shane Robinson doesn't give you anything off the bench. its not like he'd be a defensive upgrade. You wouldn't want Kepler or Adam Brett Walker being your backup outfield, so I'd say resign Hunter cheap if you can. If one of the starters gets hurt or struggles, you give Kepler a shot to take over.

Luis Tiant sighting at Boston game this afternoon. Made me smile. Only a Twin for one season but who doesn't like Luis?
