2/22-24 Winter Weather Thread

If it stays that way, yoursy going to have a lot of rain that is going to pool every where because every storm sewer intake is covered by snow. Then all that rain will freeze. I'd personally rather have a foot of snow

We had this in MSP right before the vortex. Got into the upper 30s and rained/melted. Then the temps dropped crazy fast, so everything was a sheet of ice. A month later, I still have large patches of ice in my driveway that haven’t melted.

I hate to be selfish here, but as long as the snow and ice holds off until we get out of KC Saturday morning, I could care less what happens. 36 hours and I will hopefully be in the Caribbean.

Really want to head to Ames for the WBB Sat, but I despise freezing rain, and the terrible roads it brings. Rather have snow than freezing rain.

Looks like expected snow totals in NW have come down slightly except for the Mason City area, snow totals just to the east (Des Moines/Ames) have gone up slightly, and the Shaft of Uncertainty remains in tact. Ice accumulations starting late tonight. Blizzard potential for Sunday.

NWS: "For next week, there is a potential for light, low impact snow in northern Iowa Monday through Wednesday. There is a growing likelihood of below normal temperatures for most or all of next week."

For some reason, I got to yoursy and then read the rest of your post like Jar Jar Binks

Looking like it could be really cold the first week of March...

Yeah, it looks like we won't be above freezing in Cedar Rapids in the month of March until at least the 10th. Average temp is supposed to be mid 40s in early march.

Have realized through the years, that early easter gives us early spring weather and vice versa. Easter is later this year.

So if I have plans to drive to Mpls tomorrow morning, is this freezing rain going to be problematic?

Oh wonderful, 40-50 mph wind gusts. Sure there won't be much drifting with that
