Unfortunately you need a floor general point guard to win at this level and we lost ours to injury. This team gave us some great memories and I am not going to judge them by this one game. Use this game for motivation in the offseason and come back stronger next year.

I get it, I don't mind losing it happens, but getting embarrassed? It happened against Pitt too. I trust these coaches to prepare us for these games to at least be competitve, and they are provign they are not up to it. We had crap offense against Illinios in the first 10 minutes, crap offense in the first half tonight, crap offense against Pitt. That is 3 NCAA tournament games where the offense was an issue.
It's been a defining characteristic of this era. We need a shotmaker to make shots consistently or we have no chance because we don't have an offensive scheme. We spend far too many possessions with four guys ball watching.

And I'm also convinced we have significant roster issues each year that the coaches in conference have enough film to exploit the hell out of. Chatfield isn't more than emergency foul trouble player. Our guard evaluations have a walk on playing. It's really hard to find an offensive scheme where you may have 2 guys on the floor who don't belong but have to play.

This year was supposed to be the “TJ can actually coach an offense” year with the talent being there. Instead I have had to sit here and watch us run the same high post turnover fest game after game after game and pray that Cujo or Milan or Tamin bail us out from three.

And a defense the last couple months that would make Kliff Kingsbury blush

I don’t know, but if I had to guess it’s because he does not bring it in practice to the level that TJ demands. Otherwise I have no clue how Kelderman get mins over him??

I hate to say it, but I think Gilbert killed this team. Something really has not been right with him for a while now. Not just injuries, but attitude too IMO. And being ruled out for the entire tournament and not even traveling with the team is not normal at all. Something has not been cool there and the team’s performance has shown big time.

That combined with Lipsey being injured, and this team’s chances at doing anything in this tournament were cooked. It sucks!!

And I’m not sure the fans will be able to keep this thing going either in this age of NIL…. and don’t blame them at all if they can’t. College athletics pretty much sucks anymore. Good night all!
But if you can't practice hard why would anyone think you can play hard?

Jefferson shows great ability at times, but has been a liability at times too. Jackson is one of the softest big guys we have ever had. Not that these guys are bad dudes, they aren't, but they aren't amazing players. I just think a lot of the guys are probably a bit over rated.
It's hard to put that on a sophomore. Even a guy as talented as Milan halfway into the season. This teams run was going to be based on how good our veteran guards played. I mean that's any team in the NCAA tourney. With the injuries we've had we didn't really have a chance. Milan is only so good if Gilbert isn't helping putting pressure on the opponents D.
what am I putting on him? I am saying the expectations are too high on him, and he isn't the take over the game star we hoped he would be. It isn't even a criticism, other than our own outsized expectations. Yeah maybe he will be better as a junior? I dunno, maybe.

Obviously, the defense has been bad and we’ve given up some wide open looks, but why does it always seem to happen that the team that doesn’t shoot well shoots out of their mind against us? Ole miss 10-17 from three and I think they’re like 30% for the season?

Why are we never that team that shoots out of our mind to pull the upset?

Yes it is. They have the Joe's. You know they can afford to with their $EC money
It's one game. If both teams are 100% healthy we'd probably beat them 8-10 times. If they had 2 of their best players hurt (1 out, 1 limited), do you think they'd be beating us or even have advanced this far? I doubt it.

This game is highlighting how horrible of depth ISU currently has. I hope Blum is correct that it will be an active portal season as it’s time to cut some guys loose that will never contribute.
More than simply just bringing guys in, Tj needs to consider a deeper rotation than just 7-8 guys too imo. Guys won't ever develop if they don't get to play.
