Every ISU player gets a $25 Casey’s gift card.Based on Texas Tech’s revenue sharing model, each football player gets $175k a year. Has anyone heard or seen anything from ISU in regards to their plan?
Administrators and coaches., “we must pay the players.” Everyone else, “who will pay?” Administrators and coaches, “lol, the fans of course. Only the fans.”
Great points on budget deficit from 4C and increased expenses. Travel costs alone have increased, along with other related expenses. The AD isn’t immune from inflation either.I don’t have any inside info, but to those earlier in this thread celebrating that this means we will be near maxing out the $22 million for player salaries, I will be extremely surprised if that is true. The email itself says that it’s also to cover new contracts for Campbell/Otz. We already knew that the athletic department was going to be operating at a significantly lower number than originally planned due to adding the 4 corners Big 12 schools and the lower CFP payouts. That was all BEFORE expenses needed to increase for paying players.
I assume we will be around $10-15 million for player salaries.
The difference is also having fewer donors. We can’t dismiss this as “poor us”, there is an element to “cheap us”, as well. You can purchase tickets by the Sukup area and not make a donation. That is where our tickets are and we do not donate. I suppose we should, but throwing another say $500 in really would not get us much more than our current tickets and purchasing GA parking gets me.
As much as the small guy donating helps, ISU unlike OSU does not have oil money being pumped into the program, those types of donors are the difference between the two programs.
Was this on the secondary market? Grass lot spots are $25. You can also park near campus.I had the deer in the headlight moment trying to buy a parking pass for the UCF game this year. It’s tough to justify a week’s worth of groceries for a family of four vs parking your car at a football game for 6 hours. I think many of us would love to continue to support the programs but the price for everything means many can only nibble (1 game a year) and it sucks.
What’s the budget? The only option for all of college athletics is spend more/charge more?Who else is going to pay?
My guess is Matt and TJ are taking less to help out the AD
To be fair my point about the Ferrari price was because I was told to compare MBB prices at Kansas and CU to those at ISU.We are not expecting, nor paying, Ferrari prices. Based on total donors, our AD is out performing the financial support it receives from fans. This is a complicated issue with many variables. I appreciate you digging into some of the details, but it comes down to asking the few for more to cover the many who aren’t participating. The AD isn’t being greedy. They are reducing their budget and raising prices to cover: $22MM for players, extension for CMC and TJ, etc..
Our peers have larger donor bases, as well as some having wealthier donors. That means we need a grassroots effort. Back when A&M was in the B12, they started a grassroots effort: The Century Club. All alumni were encouraged to donate $100 a year to the AD. They donated a ton of money and you saw there Century Club stickers all over south TX. All they got in return was the sticker for pride and to create peer pressure. From there, they grew their donor base and contributions from the infusion of new members and money.
Is your solution to not raise prices and reduce the budget? How would we be able to meet financial obligation to players and coaches. The CC donor number has plateaued and the same donors/ST holders are being asked to help. My ask that more fans find a way to support the AD in any way they comfortably can. It’s not sustainable long term with out growing the donor/ST holders. 11wins and a top 5 MBB seems like a good time to get in and help maintain our overachieving AD.
Closer to 35-40 or so when you factor in fees. Was this onthe secondary market? Grass lot spots are $25. You can also park near campus.

Yes, see first post with letter. Only slightly kidding.Based on Texas Tech’s revenue sharing model, each football player gets $175k a year. Has anyone heard or seen anything from ISU in regards to their plan?
I meant how much does each sport get. I believe it has to be publicly disclosed before implementation.Yes, see first post with letter. Only slightly kidding.
I think we will be like 75-80% football, 15-20% MBB 5% WBB and wrestling will push theirs to the RTC. If not shave a percent from each and five it to wrestling.I meant how much does each sport get. I believe it has to be publicly disclosed before implementation.
The AD isn’t trying to take advantage of anyone, it’s a complicated issue, schools have unique challenges and advantages, comparing prices without a very deep dive into the details and financials is unfair, you don’t have a better solution, I don’t have a better solution, I believe the AD is doing what they think is the most feasible solution, our history is just that, we have been successful for long enough to warrant more support, I accept that I will have to pay more, I am accepting that I wouldn’t be able to count on support from new donors/ST holders, I also wonder how much you’ve deterred some fans from donating or reenforced some fans position to not support the AD. what’s the end goal here?To be fair my point about the Ferrari price was because I was told to compare MBB prices at Kansas and CU to those at ISU.
I said its hard to compare ISU to KU BB if you dont consider the # of national championships and final 4 runs there to us. I have not looked at KU BB tix for that reason. Which would be like comparing us to a Ferrari being KU basketball.
But I did show that CUs were significantly cheaper even though that poster claimed they werent. Both at the top priced seats and the lowest price seats.
And I believe if you look at some of the best performing FB schools you will find even though they are much higher performing their ticket and donor cost is less. Or at very least similar to ours with a much weaker history.
Our donor base is not more because the history of ISU sports, you can try to price things to compensate for that, but that may come back to bite you. I doubt it will increase our donor base, at least as far as number of donors goes by raising donor prices. We spend a few years with top 5 finishes in football and basketball I am sure the number of donors will increase.
I dont know what the answer is, my point was, our prices are already at or near the top of costs out there, and at some point they are going to price people out. Then our donor base could drop even more and hurt the overall number too.
I gave several examples of our peers in the B12 showing just that we are at or above them in price, and everyone that said I was wrong provided Zero examples.
This is part of the problem too. What’s the budget? The only option for all of college athletics is spend more/charge more?
Coming soon, we must charge more, we all need rocket ships for each players families game day guests.
Prove it!
Well my goal was to say we already near the top of the prices when compared to our peers. And that something has to give. The AD isn’t trying to take advantage of anyone, it’s a complicated issue, schools have unique challenges and advantages, comparing prices without a very deep dive into the details and financials is unfair, you don’t have a better solution, I don’t have a better solution, I believe the AD is doing what they think is the most feasible solution, our history is just that, we have been successful for long enough to warrant more support, I accept that I will have to pay more, I am accepting that I wouldn’t be able to count on support from new donors/ST holders, I also wonder how much you’ve deterred some fans from donating or reenforced some fans position to not support the AD. what’s the end goal here?
I provided Many examples with data to support it.You’re the one that refuses to prove your assertion because you supposedly did already. It’s not that hard to link your post proving Iowa state has some of the most expensive tickets and donations out of the P4.
