WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Here's a final score you don't see everyday
Only 19 TO, only out-rebounded by 13. Looks like it was just horrendous shooting that did them in: 6-55 FG (1-24 3FG).

Taylor University famously has a "Silent Night" game the Friday before finals week where the crowd is completely silent until their team scores 10 points, at which point they erupt and storm the court (with Taylor calling a timeout to avoid getting a technical).

If Taylor played a Silent Night game the way A-PB played this game, the crowd would be silent until 6:15 left in the game.

Wondering if this will be Pingeton's last season at Mizzou? They are 10-3, but are coming off a home loss to Oral Robert’s of all things.

TCU killed UCF by 40 points on the road.

In other Big 12 action the Mountain Mamas are up early over the Rocky Mountain gals in Boulder.

UConn goes 1-5 from three in first quarter against USC.
All you can do is shake your head. It seems that EVERY team shoots career highs from three against us. It's partially getting open looks, but we've shown from our shooting that an open look doesn't mean you're going to make it.

Well, that was a wild last couple of minutes in the USC/UConn game with USC holding on by the skin of their teeth to eek out the win. Refs sort of swallowed their whistles in the 4th. It was getting pretty physical out on the court.

Some Big 12 stuff from forums around the interweb:

Mike Carey is no longer listed as an assistant coach on the UCF athletic page.

Two assistants for Baylor are gone also. Have not peeked at Baylor board to see what that's about.

The Mike Carey link to UCF was kind of hard to figure. But there he was. Sytia knew him from all the years she had coached as an assistant at Baylor. But who would have thunk about the two working together. The BIG deal at UCF right now is the loss of Gusters and Peterson. The two of them were averaging close to 40 a game. Now both injured. That was a killer for them against TCU.

The two assistants leaving at Baylor is of course a hush hush thing. Both were assigned to recruiting. The class for next year is one player. Not a bad one but not a super star either. The portal will have to be tapped to field a team next year. For now Baylor may well have the best team in the league. Especially if the new transfer (Matharu) pans out. Pollsters don't seem to think so but opposing coaches better do their homework when playing them. They have 7 players at least as good as any other team in the conference.

Thanks. I had thought Gusters had graduated (wasn't paying attention apparently) but now see she is one of the last COVID babies like Emily Ryan. Probably missed that because I did not like the extra bonus year thingie the NCAA decided to gift the players.

Gotta start paying attention to Baylor again. Feels the favorites have shifted a lot since pre-season with Baylor in than out and now in again. If the coaches voted again today there is no way ISU is essentially tied with KSU as the favorite. Maybe TCU and KSU in a dead heat followed by Baylor or WVU and than another four teams in a scrum for 4th. Can reshuffle that at the mid-point of conference play so see how it really is panning out. Took a peek at Baylor schedule and see they only have four games versus the ranked three like we do, just sub TCU in for ISU's two vs KSU. And, yikes, #1 UCLA later in January.

That Baylor recruiting situation is really something though. OSU brought in hundred gals from the portal and one freshman and are looking decent so it can work.

ESPN WBB Conference Title Predictions

ISU listed as the Big XII's "Biggest X Factor"

Can CBF rally the troops and finally win an outright conference title in Season #30?

Pretty good summary by Voepel with this added "Another X factor is how different the conference schedule is from just two years ago, with eight new members since the start of the 2022-23 season and the departure of Texas and Oklahoma. There's no historical frame of reference for several of these new matchups."

Given the unbalanced schedule of the Big 12, KSU might have a slight edge in theirs being slightly easier. Looked like a tougher schedule for them when we were ranked, sort of ISU/KSU with equal schedules and us having an edge over them last year. Still, I am just not sold on them over the course of a full season. The ISU/KSU games will be huge in determining who wins it all.

18 top 25 teams played today. 16 won. The only losers were to other ranked teams, #23 Michigan lost at #4 USC and #19 Michigan State lost at #8 Maryland. Nebraska, decent team, got drilled at #1 UCLA. Tough road trip for Cornhuskers, they play at #4 USC on New Years Day. Woof. Big Ten teams that got that draw gotta feel a little unlucky.

No Big 12 action worth mentioning. Best upcoming matchups on New Years Day are Kansas in Hilton and OSU at Baylor.
