Man Visits Every Pizza Ranch

I heard it was pushing $20 for a buffet these days. There pizza isn't even that good. Chicken is decent though. My parents liked to take our kids there when they were little. Haven't been there in years.

The lunch isn’t too bad. I think it’s around $13 or so.

But PR has the best fried chicken in the Cedar Valley. That’s the only reason to there.

About once every 6 months I think some Pizza ranch would hit the spot. I then regret that decision for the next 5-1/2 months. It's a viscous cycle.
Your Pizza Ranch is my Carlos O'Kellys. Sounds really good until you actually eat it.

The salsa is elite though...

Good on this guy. I hope they're happy. Romance lives!

That chicken is really good. The other thing I like is the thin crust pepperoni with the crunchy pepperoni on it.

Before Long John Silvers closed in Waterloo that was my once a year meal but that grease coated my innards and I could taste it for like week.

The best thing about Pizza Ranch is their chicken. Their chicken is amazing.
Not a big fan, but will go when the wife and kids want it. I usually mostly eat chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy then a bit of pizza, then a bit more chicken. Chicken is great. Last time a couple of weeks ago they decide we should go with Grandma and Grandpa to the one in Urbandale. It was ridiculously busy with a couple of huge parties and some really hungry National Guard guys in there already. A lot of waiting for food but I managed to get the last piece of chicken that wasn't very good. Finally they brought out some fresh chicken and I was looking forward to it. It was terrible. After trying a couple of pieces I came to the conclusion that it was about twice as salty as normal. Really disappointing when even the chicken isn't good. About the only good thing I had was a rootbeer float.

Afterward Mrs. Velo and I were talking and she said even the chicken wasn't good - too salty. So it wasn't just me that thought so.

Having been to ones in Urbandale, Manchester, Decorah and a few other miscellaneous places over the years, I have to say that our one up here nearest to us in the Twin Ciites is probably consistently the best one I have been to. At least it is always clean, the staff it helpful and attentive, they do a good job of keeping the buffet stocked and the food is pretty good for what it is.

Going once in a while helps me to stay mindful of watching my weight. Everytime I go there are some morbidly obese people there - everytime. Some of them entire families.

TL; DR version: Nothing like eating the ass out of dead rhinocerous - just because it is there.

I had Pizza Ranch today. It’s been a few months since I’ve been to one. Chicken was good, pizza was average. I don’t need it again for another few months.

I'm not ashamed: about once every 4-5 months we go to Pizza Ranch and I'm genuinely glad for it. Can't say its on our list of "where should we go?" But again every 4 or 5 months we'll end up there. I will counter all that though and say the bill for the family to eat there coupled with the fact that the ice cream machine is typically out of order does raise my brow.

We play the game when we go though. 2 people in your party have to put in a special pizza request. Even if it is as simple as Pepperoni and Sausage, they will bring the pizza(s) directly to you where you can divvy it up amongst the family the amount of slices you want, that cures the "pizza is out" problem. Works every time.

So he overpaid for underwhelming food and an always mostly empty "buffet" of pizzas over 200 times... all for a gal? She better be Gal Gadot.

The empty buffet thing cracks me up as every time I see one it reminds me of this time an old guy kept shouting back into the kitchen doorway at a Pizza Ranch "there's no fried chicken on the buffet!" and he just stood there and kept asking when the chicken would be out about out every few minutes "when is the fried chicken coming out!?" Could tell he was getting pissed about it too when no one would reply or come out.

Yeah, ordering one also makes sure you at least get some fresh pizza. I learned you can do this for desert the desserts as well. Mrs. Velo did that when we couldn't get food because the place was so busy.

The chicken is good. The Blueberry desert pizza is excellent.

before kids, I almost never went to a pizza ranch

We don't go too often now but we'll go a few times a year. The kids eat free nights are pretty nice and the kids don't really care about the pizza being mediocre.
