Bracketology 2024

I need some of you worry warts to explain the Neb in Omaha worry. Why? Haven’t those games been sold out for awhile? Iowa state fans have been buying up tickets for weeks.

It’s crazy to see we are no worse than a 2 and there are this many people scared of ******* Nebraska.

Hand-wringing over NCAA matchups is a fools errand in general. Usually when you lose or get upset in the dance you don't see it coming.

Remember how bad of a draw we had in 2022 going to MKE? :)

I definitely don't want to have to play another B12 team too early though.

Also, that would mean Nebraska would have to win its first round game, and aren’t they still looking for their first win ever in the tournament?

I'm working through building my final Selection Sunday seed list and bracket. Currently have spots 1-24 set (seed lines 1-6).

One interesting development that will pique ISU fans' interest. I have Illinois at 11 and Kansas at 12. Illinois is 479 miles away and a 7:07 drive to Pittsburgh; they are 489 miles and a 6:52 drive to Omaha. I could be wrong but I believe the committee does distance placement based on pure miles, not drive time. Technically, that would place Illinois in Pittsburgh and Kansas in Omaha. But that feels wrong. I could be wrong but I'm guessing Illinois fans would prefer the commute to Omaha versus Pittsburgh. Who knows.

Taking a break to get a workout in and see where Ivy and A-10 finals end up, but here's where I'm at right now. I put it at 20% ISU gets the last 1-seed.

Just to be clear, I had to do some shuffling on first round pod placement. Technically, Kentucky should get SLC and Duke/Bama go to Spokane, but due to BYU only playing on Thu/Sat, they have to be in the East/West region and have to play at a Thu/Sat first weekend site (SLC, Omaha, Pittsburgh, Charlotte). I settled on Illinois going to Pittsburgh, but wouldn't be surprised if they go to Omaha and KU gets Pittsburgh. All depends on how committee technically defines distance (miles vs. drive time vs. as the crow flies).

Don’t like Creighton as the 3 seed there. Their style could be problematic.

This is where I am at, I don't think we are ahead on UNC, I just hope to be ahead of Tennessee.

Would be great to get KU out of Omaha to open up some tickets.

For me it isn't being 'scared' of those teams although I can see that they're capable and well, it's the NCAA tournament.

Repeating (annoyingly I'm sure to many) but it's the Fred dynamic and all the weirdness if Nebraska wins; it's the same for me with WI; I work around a bunch of bandwagon Barry era Bucky fans that would be annoying.

It's just sports so whatever but I hate those kinds of scenarios.

I don't think we will get a 1 seed. If we get a 2 seed in the Midwest or West I will be happy. Just don't put us as the 2 seed in the East. Playing UCONN in Boston would not be great. Especially since UCONN has know for quite awhile now they were heading to Boston and I'm sure have ate up most of the tickets.

Being the top #2 seed and drawing a likely matchup of UConn in Boston in the E8 would be a carbon copy of what happened to the LE team.

If we are the top two seed we will be in Detroit, if we are not the top 2 seed we likely will be in the East. One caveat is if Arizona is 5 and we are 6.
