Official Signing Day Thread

So none of the big schools wanted Sam McGuffie because he is white? Michigan, Notre Dame, A & M, etc. must of only wanted him to walk on. If you can play the big boys will be after you irregardless of if your green, blue, red or even white.

Have to love the last few lines:

“I’m really excited,” Blankenship said. “I’m ready to get up there and start playing. “They’ve got some of the best fans I’ve ever seen. All new facilities. I fell in love with it.”

:wideeyed:
I'd say his school gets the award for least fearsome nickname. Papermakers? That's the best they could do?

I don't know I've gotten some pretty serious paper cuts in my day.

I see that they lost to Scissors in the regular season but ended up beating Rock for the state championship.

Not to hijack the thread, but driving through Texas last year I passed New Braunfels High School where the billboard out front read: "Congratulations Unicorn Baseball, state champs".

I immediately went to the nearest sporting goods store and bought a New Braunfels Unicorns t-shirt.

Spew your hate speech somewhere else, my friend. This thread is about football recruiting!

I know we like to think Race does not matter but do you really thing if The new WR Donnie ??? was black and was 6"6 200 pounds and ran the 40 time he had posted, do you honestly thing Donnie I think his last name is Dennert would not be playing for Florida, Florida state or someone like that?

Can coaches see the color of a players skin through the unis? With all the stress put on measurables, I can't see where being white would trump being good. Look at Beaus vids - he lacks breakaway speed, Has a great burst through the hole but not breakaway speed. Thats why OU didn't offer him - because they have many, many more options.

I'm not a fan of this Beau kid saying that the big schools didn't look at him because he's white. Maybe he wasn't good enough for the OUs and Baylors of the world to come a knocking on his door.

This situation reminds me of a time about 25 years ago when a young Latino actor caused a bit of a ruckus because he thought that he was being passed over for some serious acting gigs because of his race. That actor, Cheech Marin. Tunrs out, he was just wasn't a good actor and that's why they gave the role of Scarface to Al Pacino instead of Cheech. The rest is history.

Seriously, can't we stop all this racial tension? I see all people through the same lens, you're either a fan of Big Trouble in Little China or not. If you're not a fan, you are my enemy.

Yes, I honestly think that. Too much at stake for coaches to make decisions based on race. Just win, baby. They know that.

OTOH, this society remains rife with racial and racist thinking, I'm sure of that, too.

Jennert. . . .

I'd bet dollars to donuts that Jeff Woody finishes his Cyclone career on scholarship.

I couldn't agree with you more. In fact, I'll go out on a limb and predict he'll receive the scholarship by his 2nd year. What he might lack in speed, he more than makes up for in toughness, determination, and character. He will find a way to help this team.

I think if a guy can play, he'll get recruited - you cited Jacob Hester, but I seriously can't think of a starting white tailback in D1 football right now. I can't think of the last starting white tailback we had at ISU. The fact is there just aren't that many of us.
How about Jake Sharp of Kansas? He seemed to have a pretty good year!

in illinois there is a school called the fisher bunnies, and their colors are pink and black.

also the freeport pretzels

I think some of the strange mascot names you see these days stem from schools having to change their formerly Native American nicknames to more PC nicknames. I have seen a lot of this at small schools in rural areas.
