In Memoriam: Ames Business/Restaurants

I saw people mentioning Mexican places. Last time I was in town I was sad to see El Azteca out by the motels closed... only to find they moved into a new spot slightly west closer to Dayton. They always had a margarita that did not disappoint.
They also have a spot in north Ames. Always consistent quality there although it’s not the best place around. I still go.

Diamond Dave's.... there's a name I haven't heard in a while. Remember going there with my older brother and a fake not long before it closed.
My experience was they didn’t give two sh*ts about serving to minors. I knew a bartender there and went when he was working with zero issues. It was wonderful. Felt like I had a cheat code.

So what’s going in the new building in the old Kmart parking lot west of the Hunziker building?

Maurice’s is still in the mall. I think they are moving to this new development. Same with TJ Maxx. Hope the mall has a replacement lined up because losing TJ Maxx could hurt. Love North Grand Cinema at the mall and hope it doesn’t affect their business sine they are down on that end by TJ Maxx.

I see they’re finally putting in traffic lights at the Dayton exits off 30. Those lines were getting really long in the morning.

I haven't shopped in the mall in years (other than going to the hair salon @ Penneys. I honestly have no idea what's there any more. :(

There’s a used record store that is only open on Saturdays, noon-7, and that’s a pretty good microcosm.

The movie theater is the best thing at the mall, currently.
Not a fan of that theater. There isn't enough rise in the floor for me to be able to recline my seat. Even if there is no one sitting in the seat in front of me I still can't see over the seat back when reclined. The hassles of being very short. :(
Don't forget ol Moe and Flame n Skewer.
Still do takeout from there every now & again.
