Ames NIL Club announced

Going to kinda sound like a prick, but if I’m a player/recruit, I would I much rather do this than through the WeWill. (I know the WeWill isn’t about getting recruits, but getting and retaining the best players is the goal). The idea of paying players for doing charity work is great and will be extra money in their pocket, but getting paid to do charity work isn’t going to stop any player from getting paid just to play at an Auburn or an Ole Miss.
Even if the target is reached, all players would get $5-7.5k a year, that's not going to be a different maker for top players anyways. And I doubt they get 50k a month without corporate sponsors.

If we’re allowed to see the bright side, you could see a walk-on take advantage of this where they might not have star power to get We Will opportunities.
Honestly, a school probably has 20-30 athletes at any given time that have the name recognition to actually make money at this game, so it is for a lot more than just walk-ons IMO. I do like the idea of having a decent base given to everyone in the group.

I’m all for players getting whatever they can and ideally We Will would grow to the point where all Iowa State players are taken care of. Just want to make folks aware Yoke gaming takes 25-30 percent of all funds directed to their websites including this Ames NIL club. We Will’s operating costs are significantly less. But certainly all for whatever players can get.

Could the We Will Collective set up a program that would compete directly with the Yoke program? Allow people to make restricted gifts that would be shared equally among all players of a particular team, but take a much lower cut.

I’ll need to think about it a little harder and read about it more. I’d like to know how the funds get distributed among the players. I’d consider paying someone with a personality like Niang for an hour Q&A. That doesn’t mean I would do the same for everyone. Nor should someone that does have marketability have to subsidize his teammates.

I’ll be interested to learn more details.
I was thinking the opposite on this really. Seems like a good/easy way for the 'marketable' players to help out the 'less fortunate' players.

Feel like this is going to get awkward.

Blum's personal livelihood is contingent on getting donations to We Will.

For the players.

Who he's now in competition with, whether either side admits it or not.

There are other ways to become marketable other than athletic ability. They have the same opportunity as others just need to be a little more creative. A communistic approach seems like a horrible idea to me.

When you say significantly less, what % are we talking about?
Well we haven’t completed an entire year yet and hard to know exactly what end costs will be and how much we will raise but conservatively around 7-10 percent and lower should we raise above the lowest expectations. I’ll definitely know more as we can better project. But the more we raise, the lower the percentage as the costs of the credit card processor, financial/database are fixed.

They are different. Blum only gets paid from corporate sponsors, which aren't going to contribute to this fund. It's just for fans.

Uhhhh. That's called going into business for yourself. Risk vs. Reward. Why should he or anyone else be protected upon a decision like that.
