Big men at iowa state...

He had the sweetest touch at the rim for a guy his size.

He wouldn't fit the D-first philosophy of this year's team, but the "soft touch" part, we could use more of that.
Yes, very soft hands. He could catch anything thrown his way and as you said had a soft shot that generally went in. I think he led the league in FG% one year hitting almost two thirds of his shots and had the second best career FG% all time in the Big 8 which was north of 60%.

3) The post-up game is dead. It’s physically demanding, takes time to learn, and everyone would rather shoot 3s. In the era of no-middle defenses, it’s also really effective… at creating live-ball turnovers.
There was a good deal of post-up in the Final Four last year., and even back to the Elite 8. If you want to be there, you will have somebody who can post up.

It’s a lot harder when you have to go through at least one other super tall dude who is trying to stop you, hurt you, or both.

So go through ‘em and draw the foul, or better yet, get the and-1. All much better than banking a bunny 3-ft off target when your starting position was <1-ft from the basket.

True centers..I think Homan's been the best all around we've had. He could take over on both ends of the court. Vic offensively and Cato defensively though.

I will repeat what I said a few weeks ago. Conditt is the most underrated player on the team and maybe in the Big 12. He is 6th on the team in minutes per game (19.2), but look where he rates in terms of key team stats:

PPG 5.1. - 7th (virtually tied for 6th)
RPG 3.9 - 2nd
APG 2.0 - 2nd
BPG 0.9 - 1st
TO 1.3 - 3rd lowest among top 6 in MPG
FG% 66% - 1st by a mile
He can't stay on the floor because he commits too many ill advised fouls..and I said that PC.

I love Rob's effort and appreciate how hard he works out there, but his numbers are really bad this year, far worse than Conditt's in most areas.

Neither guy has taken a 3 (not surprising) but George is shooting 66% from the field on the year on more shots than Rob at 43%. True shooting numbers (which account for 3's and free throws) George leads the team with 67%. It's pretty common that a center will do so, so that's not shocking. But Rob is at 41% which is hard to fathom given how close his attempts come. Only Kalscheur is close to Rob in this respect at 43%, and Gabe takes a lot more shots from distance. George is also making free throws at almost twice the rate on not quite double the attempts, Conditt at 66% on 47 attempts, Jones at 34.5% on 29. You are correct that Rob seems a bit more aggressive looking for his shot, as he does take shots at a slightly higher rate than George.

Now, Rob does compete hard on the boards, and has a higher defensive rebounding rate than George, but George has higher rates on offense and combined. George does turn the ball over more frequently, but he also has a much higher assist rate. Defensively, they have almost exactly the same block and steal rates.

As for stats that attempt to measure overall performance, take these with a grain of salt. It's very hard, if not impossible, to quantify what "good defense" is. So these will do a better job of showing the impact on offense and attempt to for defense, but I don't think they do a great job on that end. George is one of 4 players who have played all year on the roster with a Player Efficiency Rate above average (average is always exactly 15). Brockington is unsurprisingly leading the team in this metric at 20.8, with George in second at 17.6. Rob is at 8.7, beating out only Gabe. Win Shares is another attempt at the same thing, as is BPM. Both have George as a far superior option, but again, these are weighted towards the offensive end.

I guess I just don't see the two as that far apart on the defensive end, and George has been much, much better on offense this year.

(all stats come from here, and I believe the site does have breakdowns for how everything is calcutlated)

Jaz is a good shooter from beyond the arc. We need teams to fear him taking that shot. He passes up way too many wide open looks from distance. We need scoring; our best 3 point shooter needs to take his open looks.

He is shooting over 43% on the season.
I think he needs to be better at taking the shots in rhythm and quicken his release. Things to work on in the off-season.

I understand the stats, and I see Jone's deficits, however I see POTENTIAL. I feel like Conditt has peaked his progress has been a kind of three steps forward two steps back. I just think if Jones put the time in, and the coaches concentrate on his progression we will see good things in the future.

Mike Jacobson was a very under appreciated big. He played hard, and had some decent skill on the block. CSP just didn't use him correctly. He tried to make him a stretch 4 so Solo could post up in the paint. That was not his strength.
Both were below average in size for a good 5

Is he better this year than last year? Hes still fouling at an alarming level, hes still making horrible passes, and he isnt scoring or blocking shots.

He's improved immensely over the course of the season, he's quit being overly emotional when calls don't go his way, he's gotten better in the offensive flow it seems to me, and he's not fouling at near the rate that he was at the beginning of the season.

Totally fair! I guess my point is that the numbers say George has probably been pretty underrated this year for this team, and that Rob has a ways to go on the offensive end. We can tell he works hard though, and I do hope you're right.

Vic was great but was a liability as well. The team was built to run, Vic could not run, but could score down low over any one.
So four guys run and if they have to pull it out they wait a few seconds for Vic to roll in and dominate set play. The problem is? Now Vic and defense…,

How do you know he wasn't working hard?
Also, George has been one of the better players on the team this year IMO. Most metrics have him as one of the few guys who's been solid to good on offense.

Sure, I wish he would have blossomed into an all-B12 type of player, but most guys don't. I think it's gross that people want to say he doesn't work hard/etc. He's probably the most underrated player on the team by the fan base this year, IMO.

George has been a great Cyclone, but he got destroyed last night by a fat kid with a side pony tail. For some reason he seems a little lost out there. Robert Jones at least can D up guys and not get pushed around, but man offensively, he is brutal. Either one of them isn't going to make a shot unless it's a dunk. I don't know how you can be playing post at this level and not develop a single post move. Where is the baby hook, the up and under? Put some pressure on the defense and kick it out?

He gave up too many pounds so he got pushed around IMO. He does have that nice baby hook but he doesn't usually get in a position to shoot it, when he does it's pretty effective around that 4 ft range. Last big that I can even remember shooting a big long range hook consistently is Jabbar for the Lakers. People like dunks better than hooks unluckily. A good hook shot is hard to defend IMO.
