Big men at iowa state...

Can anyone give me some recent examples of “traditional big men” (apparently the bar is 6’ 10” + lol good job CF) that didn’t attend KU,Texas, or Baylor that were significantly better than GC?
It is extremely rare for guys that size to be good enough to be genuine difference makers. So usually, they go to blue bloods/maybe you get a guy every now and then who does it elsewhere. But it's not like those guys are available and ISU just doesn't want them or anything.

The only one that I can think of that even kind of fits the mold is Blake Griffin. But not sure if he is 6’10” and not sure he is a the kind of “big man” that people are talking about. Also he’s not even recent at this point.

I'd honestly rather get a lineup where all the guys are like 6'5" to 6'9" w/ lots of length. Wingspan > height

I don't think there has been a true 5 in the conference that has averaged over 10pts a game in at least 10 years. A few obvious ones from the schools you mentioned. Other than that you might be able toss in Dean Wade from KSU or Spangler at OU, although he is not a true 5 either. Only two that I can think of that compare to our 5's from the same time frame are Shepard from TCU and Mcnease from OU. Both of those guys are better than what we have currently, but I would take Lard and Mckay over them for sure.

He’s not 6’10”. Do not want.

Seriously, even in the NBA today there are few elite old school bigs. You have Gobert, the Lopez twins (not elite, but good), Dwight hanging around being average the past few years, who else? Big 3's who can guard 4;s and 5's are the way forward.

so three 6’8” guys that can handle the ball and shoot the three at a 40% clip. Yea that would probably work instead of one 6’11” guy with 7’5” wingspan that can set a silver dollar on top of the backboard. Either option works for me. Which one do we get next year?

40 is exceptional. 35 should be the standard expectation for being above average. Tre King is close to fitting that mold in next years class. Niang, Hogue, Ejim all fit the mold I personally think college teams should build around. Purdue is the only school I can think of that has continued to thrive on good old school bigs.

Shaq is better than GC.

...and this post is now as tall as Shaq.

Lampkin from TCU made our big's look like the JV girls team..
Moussa Cisse at OSU

Yeah, I'm sure if we had Lampkin's 6.7 pts and 6.1 rbs per game and 8 total blocks all season, we'd all be thrilled with our post play.

Conditt and Jones combine to average 7.5 points and 6.1 rebounds/game as upper classmen

Lampkin carries the highest PORPAG on Torvik "Points Over Replacement Per Adjusted Game." Jones is negative by the way...

Former 5-star Moussa Cisse averages 7 and 6. He just went for 18/10 against WV. Lampkin had 16/9 on Tuesday against us. Conditt and Jones' best combined game this season is a combined 13/7 against Arkansas Pine Bluff or 12/10 against Okie ST (overtime game).

Both are sophomores with 3 years of eligibility. I'd sign up for them over what we have 12/10 times

I'm sure we'll get some with TJ. With Hoiberg and Prohm, they were very guard centered teams. I think TJ would like to have a really good post player, he's just in year 1 and hasn't gotten "his" roster put together just yet. Hopefully if we can get to the NCAA tourney, we will be attractive in the transfer portal. Would be nice to get a big from one of the P6 programs
Hoiberg's teams were loaded with skilled bigs... Royce, Ejim, Booker, Hogue, Mckay, Niang. Maybe none of them had the size of a traditional Center but all very good and most capable of banging with bigger guys. Prohm had some very promising bigs but was terrible at developing them... or keeping them out of trouble.

Not sure I'd consider Ejim or Hogue as big men.
Consider them as you wish but I'd take 8.4 RPG each over any traditional "big man". You'll find that most elite college teams have at least one 6'6ish junkyard dog who can expose slow bigs on offense and bang with them on defense.
