There is going to be a giant power void in the Big 12 in the near future. Someone will need to fill it. ISU can be that someone.
Most accurate name of a poster I've seen on here. What I've been told is that CMC would be "crazy not to listen" if ND comes calling. As of now, he does not seem to be the primary target. We'll see. Fingers crossed.
ISU ending up with Freeman after all this would be an upgrade for us IMO.
Anybody else rooting hard that Fickell stays at Cincy? That just helps the new conference. Of course if he doesn't go to ND, that hurts our chances at keeping CMC. I have always believed that CMC has not thought about leaving, but the ND job will be the litmus test. And I wouldn't be mad at him one bit if he goes.
Penn St. DC is taking VT according to ESPNBy the time I actually posted this, he'll probably have accepted the Virginia Tech job.
IMO Campbell is not the top pick. Fickel and Freeman probably first choices. Freeman has a great shot. Reminds me of Lincoln Riley and Ryan Day being in house and elevated. Picking Freeman would ensure the retention of ND’s #4 recruiting class and players. They are lobbying for him to get the job. Our disappointing season may work in our favor. We were #7 pre-season. We are now 7-5 and unranked. It might be a blessing.
Correct. Grew up in South Bend and return almost annually. The town is quite industrial and blue collar. ND campus is great but rest of area not so much. The money spent at ND is unbelievable.

And if he doesnt get ND does he dream of what could have been for the rest of his days? Risky game CMC is playing here.
This guy wasn't a GA. Was an assistant that came over from another P5 program. It worked out fine, but was a bit of a surprise.true.
Its not that unheard of in the coaching business sadly. GA's have a brutal life in pursuit of a dream at a lot of places.
I get that sentiment, but we are a totally different school since McCarney started. The facilities are great, the fan base is great, the administration is top notch. We have much to offer that we didn't in our history. The next coach is not starting from 0-11, or even 3-9. The cupboard, assuming many would stay, is as full as it's ever been. JP knows the CMC formula and knows what works here and would look for those same qualities in the next coach. So I agree 50-50 is not likely, but 5-95 is more unlikely.Sure, Fickell staying at Cincy probably means disaster for ISU football as it clears the way for ISU to lose one of the best coaches in the country, and puts us right back to the nearly impossible odds of finding a coach that can succeed here and won't bolt after the first 6 win season, but on the bright side there might be a slight improvement in quality and perception of the new Big XII...
I remember going 3-9 or 5-7 or even 6-7 and the best we had was conference smack talk and living vicariously the good teams in the conference. It was horrible. I don't think people appreciate just how hard it is to find the right guy that can be successful at ISU. It isn't like 50-50. It's like 5-95. Odds are the next coach, and the one after, and the one after is not going to be successful at the level of Campbell. And the odds are if one is successful he's gone. That's just the way CFB is at a program like ISU.
So no. You root for anyone at all that might be ahead of Campbell on NDs list to take the job.
Our buddy Joel Klatt's predictions today:
Florida-- Napier
USC-- Aranda
LSU-- Matt Campbell
One thing that has changed is that ISU now has facilities that have gone from "terrible" to "pretty darn nice".Sure, Fickell staying at Cincy probably means disaster for ISU football as it clears the way for ISU to lose one of the best coaches in the country, and puts us right back to the nearly impossible odds of finding a coach that can succeed here and won't bolt after the first 6 win season, but on the bright side there might be a slight improvement in quality and perception of the new Big XII...

I don’t think this helps us..
Made me chuckle.
Are you OK? Did you faint while typing that last paragraph? If there is one thing that is helping us keep CMC, it would be that Riley left OU and there was a lot of fall out. Matt is a great coach and recruiter, but is he going to step in on day one and be able to hold all those recruits? I don't doubt CMC could do it, but it has to be on the minds of the brass at ND.
I think the safe pick is Freeman. He's there, he knows the culture already and has proven he can get the talent. If he doesn't work out as an HC, then he doesn't, but I think that chance of him not working out is probably just as great with Campbell. Especially with the way this year has gone for him.
Bringing in Campbell means starting over. You don't hire a guy then tell him how to coach football, Matt will do it his way. With Freeman, they know what they have and as others have said, he was pretty much being groomed for the HC job at ND anyway.
I don't know, ****, I'm talking out of my ass really. This all is too much to comprehend and too crazy to really
I doubt we would. He’d go make 3 million with Kelly for a year or two snd take a better job.
Based upon his treatment of Matt LeFleur, he may be trying to get Freeman to come down and chase alligators out of his backyard.Do you think Kelly is trying to help Freeman land the ND job by putting that info out there? Could be...
Oh, gotcha.... I've got some good stories there. Some of them famously involve Bobby Petrino. This guy wasn't a GA. Was an assistant that came over from another P5 program. It worked out fine, but was a bit of a surprise.
