If CMC left this year I would hope to hire
Kansas HC Lance Leopold - look at what he did at Buffalo and UW-Whitewater
In house - Nate Scheelhaase
Non HC - Freeman DC at Notre Dame

But lets make sure that Campbell and staff feel appreciated at ISU.
Someone send them a couple Casey's Breakfast Pizza's and a box of Krispy Kreme donuts.

If Campbell sticks around I would be excited to move Scheelhaase to OC. Maybe Manning gets a G5 HC job this year or next. We should be grooming Scheelhaase to take the reins when CMC leaves.

Could you elaborate? I follow CW and havent seen much lately. Or is that your point? The calm before the dreaded 'storm'?

He said on this week's podcast that he doesn't know what's happening so he's trying not to put much out either way.

Smart move on his part.

Not smart to speculate on his non-posting since he's provided a rationale.

So take with a grain of salt, but word (VTech alum friend) was CMC was offered the VTech job but asked for 8m/year and was turned down. Having 0 connections at either place, who knows if true but it would suggest he is listening to offers which isn’t unfathomable.
I think I'll take it with this:

I just hope ND's decision goes quickly. Listening to their AD's press conference and setting up the characteristics (pillars) and seeing who fits etc. made me think this could last longer than we want. Can't imagine what our present staff is saying to our recruits right now.
For those that know more....what do they say? Because you can't tell me there aren't calls coming in to our staff right and left from recruits or even Moms or Dads. Even worse, how many calls are our recruits getting right now from other coaches on their lists, hinting CMC will not be there for their 4 years.

What a crazy year. Jeez, this summer, I was so looking forward to this season, I could not have been more excited. Then it turned into one nightmare after another. We go from best possible scenario for the best season in ISU football to UT/OU and the possible loss of the Big 12, then the football team drops some games they shouldn't and the season is a disappointment, to now, staring straight in the face of losing our head coach. I've been an ISU fan for a long time. I can't ever remember this kind of emotional swing ever, especially in a six month span.

Not sure why I feel this way but I could see CMC spending this time negotiating for a higher assistant $$ package to ensure his staff sticks in Ames. Maybe because that is how it usually works with CMC...I could see him shuffling some responsibilities around on this staff this offseason (if he stays).

I'm starting to get pretty pissed at Campbell. Does he not know how much time I am spending refreshing CF, searching Twitter, and updating family members on the situation? I am a busy man, I don't have time for all of this. How can he be so selfish?

In all seriousness, I will be glad when this is over, either way.

Honest question, if we are saying Scheelhaase is the guy with the main recruiting juice at ISU, and Freeman at ND, what's more impressive - ND's class being 4th in the nation, or Scheelhaase's being #26?

If Campbell left I'd be all aboard taking the big gamble on Scheelhaase. I think he's a future coaching star, and maybe if you go all in on a guy this early you have a chance at a guy sticking around for the long haul if he's successful. Now, if Heacock were to retire or leave upon a change, I'll be worried no matter what. Hell, I'll be worried when/if Heacock retires even if Campbell is still here.

Hire Freeman and move Scheelhaase to OC. Best recruiting staff in the country

He'd be dumb not to listen. I don't care how much you love your job - you are not doing yourselve any favors by not listening. Because the world is always changing and evolving. So to have your head in the sand and never listen or talk to anyone else is not good business...

unless your like the CEO of a incredibly rich company, then you can probably survive doing that. For the rest of us mere peeons, you should listen. Doesn't mean you should leave but always be aware. Even if you don't leave it might give you ideas as to what you need to do better where you are at.

Overall though this thread.... SMH.
Agreed. Plus if CMC really doesn't have an agent, he would need some external numbers which he could provide to Pollard to justify an pay increase.

I'm late to this party but I'm here to say I think Jim Leonhard will make an excellent head coach someday. I was a big fan of his when he played at Wisconsin, dude was an animal and hit like a mule kicks... that is all.
