Do you think Kelly is trying to help Freeman land the ND job by putting that info out there? Could be...

Freeman is an up-and-coming star and ND never recruited better than when he was on staff. I'd imagine Kelly desperately wants him in Baton Rouge.

I don't know, all good points. But I just have a feeling that Gundy is ACTUALLY loyal to his alma mater. Has he made plays in the past to perhaps get a bump in pay? Absolutely.

Gundy is where he wants to be for sure. When CMC gets to ND or tOSU he won’t ever be mentioned for other jobs either.

IMO Campbell is not the top pick. Fickel and Freeman probably first choices. Freeman has a great shot. Reminds me of Lincoln Riley and Ryan Day being in house and elevated. Picking Freeman would ensure the retention of ND’s #4 recruiting class and players. They are lobbying for him to get the job. Our disappointing season may work in our favor. We were #7 pre-season. We are now 7-5 and unranked. It might be a blessing.

The other thing with Gundy is that oSu isn't a blueblood like ND or tOSU, so him staying put is different. Like my current job, at my reviews when they ask what I want to do next here, the running joke is retirement - b/c I love my job and my employer, doing really cool stuff. We probably are the premier company in our industry, so it's like I'm already at tOSU. But I'm not a man, I'm not 40. And now I'm rambling...

Anybody else rooting hard that Fickell stays at Cincy? That just helps the new conference. Of course if he doesn't go to ND, that hurts our chances at keeping CMC. I have always believed that CMC has not thought about leaving, but the ND job will be the litmus test. And I wouldn't be mad at him one bit if he goes.

I will literally never cheer for the interests of the Big XII over Iowa States.

Which former ISU coach was quoted as saying a regret was leaving ISU for the "dream job" - was that Earle Bruce for tOSU? Came from a coaching clinic 20+ years ago

No. The new Big XII will still be seen by the media and public as a second-tier league regardless of how good it actually is. I would prefer most of the teams stink in our division and we win it often.

What I've been told is that CMC would be "crazy not to listen" if ND comes calling. As of now, he does not seem to be the primary target. We'll see. Fingers crossed.

This is my personal opinion.

If CMC isn't offered the ND job at this time, if in 5 years ND comes calling again, he'll turn them down. I think he loves it in Ames. I think he'd love to have the ND job. I also think that he'd be pretty hurt by not having the job offered to him. If we get through this, the only job we'd need to worry about CMC leaving for is Ohio State. In fact, he may be appreciative enough of the trust that JP has shown him that he may just say, "Screw it. I like Ames. I'm staying here until I retire or I'm forced out."

By the time I actually posted this, he'll probably have accepted the Virginia Tech job.

Ive spent a few weeks out there for work and I’m personally not a fan. Campus is super nice but the general area didn’t seem that great.
Correct. Grew up in South Bend and return almost annually. The town is quite industrial and blue collar. ND campus is great but rest of area not so much. The money spent at ND is unbelievable.
