It pains me to say this.......but the house that Johnny built.....that coaches like Larry Brown, Billy Tubbs and Norm Stewart feared....that players like Danny Manning, Waymon Tisdale, Byron Houston and Derrick Chevious hated.......where you couldn't hear yourself think when the late Brian Pearson hit a three against top rate OU......where we use to yell "sit down Tubbs" on national television....where the roof almost blew off when Fizer dunked against UT.....where the floor shook when the OSU guard tried in vane to make two game winning free throws..........................

is gone!

Thanks, I'll be sure not to sign up for Cyclone Alley next year and rid of my season tickets. 125 dollars i get to keep.

couple points--

1) Jamie Pollard knew that there were going to be player defections and yet he still made the move.

2)you say "He's slowly building the program back up to what it needs to be" prove it.
- I don't see any improvment at all, AT ALL. Name me some games that ISU won and areas where we are better at this year than last year, or the previous year.

He's got more than 5 players on the team that have talent, unlike what he had in year 1, when he took over from Morgan. That team was devestated by defections.

He's recruited a good solid support base for the team to surround the star players, DG, Brackins and W.Johnson. Who was he too know that W.Johnson would bail on the team and DG and CB won't play up to their potential?

If DG and CB ever live up to their hype, this team is good. Until they do, we'll see a lot of struggles.

I support the players, they deserve better than this and also the players need to learn to not back down!!

I might add that as the season progresses we don't see improvement in McDermott coached teams. If this game was the first game of the season it would have been excusable but its not.

I'm convinced that McDermott is the wrong guy for the job. That being the case, we only dig a bigger hole the longer we stay with him.

There's just no life in him or in his team. None of his three teams at ISU have exhibited ANY passion. I know that there were extenuating circumstances, but how can a good lose as many players as he did when he took over? That sent up major warning flags right off the bat. Wesley Johnson is another warning sign. Perhaps today's athletes do not want to play in a caveman offense that lives and dies on jump shots.

Good bye coach Mac.

I really want everone to understand how bad South Dakota State is. I've lived in South Dakota for most of my life and have been a Cyclone fan all my life. South Dakota State just recently moved to the D-1 level. They have really struggled with recruiting since this move. The big discussion around here is that they(SDSU) can't get the players they need to compete at the level they moved to. They still have D-II type players. Anyone who doesn't think so, just look at their record the last couple of years. Don't kid yourself on this....SDSU does not have anyone on their team that any Big 12 school even recruited. If you think that getting recruits to come to Ames, IA is tough, think about trying to get them to come to Brookings, SD. Brookings is a town of about 10,000 people and basketball is not their number one sport. They have absolutely no fan base when it comes to mens basketball. Why, because they are horrible and nobody here in South Dakota wants to drive to Brookings to watch SDSU get blown out by 20 every game.

Now, on to ISU. Coach Mac's style of play "allows" teams like SDSU and others to compete with us. I'll be honest that when coach Mac was hired I was really excited because his Northern Iowa teams played the style of basketball that would allow them to keep it close with the big boys. His style is a slow down, make the other team play defense and work the shot clock, and try to play good defense type of play with less talented players. He does not attack the opposition whatsoever, nor do these players we have deserve to play in a style like Mac's. Our players are way too talented to be put in hand cuffs like Mac does to these boys. Coach Mac, you are ruining these players careers and they deserve better.

I hope everyone realizes that coach Mac is way out of his league at ISU and should be back were he belongs, the MVC. Once again, SDSU will finish in the bottom of their conference AGAIN this year and they are a very, very, very bad team. Come on JP, get a real basketball coach in here.....we the fans and players deserve better.

is gone!

But dude did you see the kids playing in the isle? Family friendly..yada yada yada. I'm with you.

I thought we would have a good team this year, but it seems like every GMAC team lets you down:no:

I was for GMAC but......

FIRE GMAC!!!!!

Why don't you read the post I was responding too, who brought up Morgan to begin with, and I responded to it.

Why don't all these Fire Mac supporters come up with one reason how it would benefit the program to fire Mac now? He has young players and good recruits coming in and you want him to leave now to possibly lose all of that? Firing Mac now or at the end of the season is the biggest crap and stupidest thing I read on this forum. Deciding to Fire Mac before we are halfway through the season is laughable. We are a bottom rung Big 12 team and have been for the past 4 years, and we want to fire a coach before he even gets to perform with the players he wants on his team. If we don't perform in the Big 12 at all, then I think it's a valid argument, but now it's stupid. Call it the hot seat if you want, but the rampant Fire Mac crap is stupid and only looks bad on our fanbase.

I apologize for going off--I'm just pissed. I hear what you are saying. Wayne Morgan isn't the reason we're not improving now (maybe year 1 or 2, but really, year 3?).

What would be worse if we did fire him? Would we lose to another team like this? Would we have a chance to win more games?

I was willing to give the guy 4 years. I still am. I don't see that anything is getting better, and it needs to.

Again, 4 years, but we'd better be NCAA bound next year.

So if things are bumpy all season what are you going to do? If they dont fire GMAC this year what will you do? Some of you people treat the athletics like someone shot your mom. Go have a beer and sleep on it.

you are right. it is just athletics, but it's Cyclone athletics!! and I want us to do well as much as the next fan. time for a 32oz High Life.....or more

well let me tell you what I think. Our offense against a man to man defense looks like this. "try to get brackins the ball and if that doesn't work, then either 1. penetrate 2. shoot a 3 3. turn the ball over. or 4 any como of the 3.
People complained about Wayne Morgan's offenses looking like all street ballers. This is what we look like and we don't have the "ballers" to play this way. Atleast he could bring in some studs.
And it isn't just the SDSU game, I have never been a big fan of GMac at all. Don't tell me he was given nothing for players when he came, well he has been here long enough. Good programs play with studly freshmen, where are ours???? Get rid of him!!!!

Oh, so for Georgetown, it's not the slow offense, but the talent?

yea JT the III knew that he was going to run a slow offense and recruited players that fit his system. seems to me like MAC recruits a big guy, and people that like to jack up threes. There is no movement in gmac's offense where georgetown's offense is all based on movement and backdoor cuts.

I appreciate your loyalty, but unfortunately JP burned my only 'free pass'. Perhaps I'd be more lenient if he didn't pull the trigger so soon on Dan Mac and Morgan and instead given them a 1-year conditional probation. After all, we were only 1-year away from a Bowl game and the Big Dance with both coaches. Now, our two big money makers are probably going in the red next year.

If we finish last in the MBB B12 this year, I do not want JP with the responsibility of hiring another coach.

And possibly 1 year away from NCAA sanctions in basketball the way the program was headed under Morgan. Not defending Mac but the program is clean and does not have any questionable practices (well besides the game day coaching).

I have that tape to watch and our run to the Elite 8...unbelievable to see the size of our guys. We look and play like a DII school right now.

My passion is ISU Basketball and this is killing me. This is the first night I actually, in all reality, would like LE back. He can coach circles around GMac.

why couldn't LE come back some day? He's clean and sober - it could be a great story.
