On That Note - In My Room

Sting - All This Time

"Teachers told the Romans built this place.
They built a wall and a temple and an edge of the empire garrison town.
They lived and they died.
They prayed to their gods, but the stone gods did not make a sound.
And their empire crumbles 'till all that was left
Were the stones the workmen found."

Always loved this song. The lyrics are very poetic

And this one:
...
It took a day to build the city
We walked through its streets in the afternoon
As I returned across the field's I'd known
I recognized the walls that I'd once laid
Had to stop in my tracks for fear
Of walking on the mines I'd laid
...

Bonus: the video features Billy Curtis who starred as Mordecai in High Plains Drifter.

Tyler Childers - Bottles and Bibles

Bottles and bibles litter the floor
An all night revival passed out around four
Now the preacher's been drinking
but that's hard not to do
since she ran out the screen door
and said they were through

Marcus King - Swinging Doors
(an old Merle Haggard tune, but I like this version)

A black eagle
Flies through my back yard
Perches on my window
Lord, what a fearsome sight

Somebody mentioned, Why haven't these guys done a Super Bowl halftime. I agree, would be better than the last couple.

Better hurry, gettin' older.

Some of these songs take me back. I'm not THAT old that I was alive when they were most popular, but these were always my dad's go to songs. Listening to KGGO with him are some of my earliest memories of my dad. He woke up with his clock radio on KGGO back when it was exclusively 50s and 60s music. I'd just lay on his bed while he got ready to go out to Camp Dodge for work.

I was wondering if I might have known your Dad when it hit me, that when I spent six years of weekends at Camp Dodge, the only music on the radio was 60's music because it was the 60's. I think we didn't meet which is a shame because I think your Dad had a good taste for music.

Wind tearin' through the backstreet, I hear the rhythm of my heart beat
Rain blowin' to my face, I'm tired of being in the wrong place

Blues knockin' on my back door, I can't jump from the second floor
Turn up the radio higher and higher, rock and roll music set my ears on fire

[Verse 1]
Eddie waited 'til he finished high school
He went to Hollywood, got a tattoo
He met a girl out there with a tattoo, too
The future was wide open
They moved into a place they both could afford
He found a night club he could work at the door
