But you are assuming this search didn't start until Prohm was let go. It was pretty obvious a change was needed back in January. I'd expect that Pollard was conducting the search over the past few months. He's really good at keeping that under the radar.
No they’re assuming JP can’t become sufficiently familiar other/better candidates until there’s a vacancy. Back channels only goes so far.

But he can't really admit that. AT the very least, he can't say he talked to an existing head coach before today. So the appearance is going to be he hired TJ in 48 hours or whenever it goes official.

Who cares what the appearance is. The only thing that matters is whether he can win basketball games. If he can, no one cares about the process. If he can't, then the hiring process is the least of our concerns. A program can recover from a bad coaching hire. Back to back bad hires can tank a program for a long time.

I don't see a lot of people trashing him. I see a lot of people wondering why we are hiring him. I think it's OK to question why we are hiring someone who does not have a winning record at a Mountain West school after less than 24 hours.

I personally am not friends with him, so I don't know all of his great qualities.

It’s okay to question. But at the end of the day he will win more than 97 games in six years. In fact he will win more than 97 games in the next 5 years.

Question for those who aren't happy if it's TJ. Would it change your mind if he brought on staff that consisted of someone like, oh Nate Loenser or maybe Danny Manning?
For me it's the fact that it seems like there wasn't really a process, at all. Just hiring TJ without looking at all the options available, and a quick hire in this case looks really bad given the fact that no other programs are beating down TJs door for an interview.

When it is plain to see in four years this hire was a failure Pollard will dig in like he did with McDermott. ISU basketball is in a lot of trouble going forward. The start of the TJ era is terrible because, at least on social media, there is a decent split with fans on this. There is basically no middle ground. Several excited, several upset.

Lol, social media. They panned the Hoiberg hire too.

I feel like JP is one of those interviewers that does all the talking and just knows he’s hiring regardless.

Everyone who seems to think TJ was a foregone conclusion - any sources?

I don't doubt he was a top 3 candidate, most likely THE top candidate - but what's to say we didn't reach out to 3-5 other options at the same time? Do you really think it's that far-fetched to think those guys either A) weren't interested, or B) wanted much more than we could afford?

IF this news is true, I'm not convinced we didn't at least reach out to others to at least offer interviews. Hell, it's not even unfathomable that we DID interview a few others - zoom interviews are still a thing, and contrary to popular belief they do happen while guys have other jobs...

Either way - while not super excited about this hire (again, IF true), I'll support him and doubt we have another 0 conference win season.

First, no, that’s a false dilemma.

Second, what is bad about getting turned down? It’s no worse than going straight to the family friend, .500 MWC contingency candidate.

JP playing darts again
To correct for accuracy, TJ is below .500. It’s every other coach in UNLV history that coached a full season that are .500 or above.

The only one that I'd like to know is whether they called Devries's agent. He's one that I think you'd have to at least gauge an interest before making the hire. Beyond him, I'm not sure you can make a case that any other candidate was head and shoulders better than TJ.

I’m not sure we can thank Creighton enough for the last decade of basketball and the rebirth of the program (although now it died).
