I think Prohm could help himself a lot by bringing in a new assistant or two. I’ve never been impressed by his staff.
Who’s gonna want to join a lame duck head coach?

It might be too late at this point. Should’ve already done it a couple years ago.Who’s gonna want to join a lame duck head coach?
I don't disagree with anything here however you inserted Boston College, a school with little to no basketball history or tradition, into the previous discussion. All of your examples above are either: clear program upgrades (Turgeon and Bennett), moves to programs with better support (Underwood), and one odd case where a coach (Williams) was persuaded to go home (as a job a lateral move or a very slight upgrade).
We aren't comparing Iowa State to a NC, Michigan, Kansas, or a host of other schools. But comparing Iowa State to Boston College? Unless a coach had very strong recruiting ties they thought that job would leverage, I don't see how one could argue it's even a lateral job. Better history (last 40 years), possibly more money, and infinitely better support.
As far as being an east coast guy well...he's had a whopping 2 P6 jobs throughout his entire career. Part of his history may be due to regional familiarity and/or the interviews/jobs he was offered. How many jobs did he turn down due to geographic location? He he did make a choice was geography a driving factor? I don't know the answers to those questions but I doubt you do either. What I do know is drawing that conclusion based on his coaching history over the last 15 years is rather silly.
With Beilein it's likely a matter of both timing and the program. I think we can agree he will be highly sought after and will have his pick of open positions. Barring a major surprise however, most of the clearly better jobs won't be looking.
Being discussed on another board but figured we could argue over here too
Thoughts on Archie Miller if Indiana fires him?
Archie Miller would excite me more than some of the names i've seen thrown around for ISU (e.g. Devries, Medved, Henderson or Hornacek)
Has Archie delivered on the top 15 salary IU has paid him? No, but i still think hes a good coach and is a safer bet to return ISU to a winning program than some of the midmajor coaches projected for ISU by fans and media.
What area of the game does TJ specialize in? We have established that he can recruit well. Our current guy isn't horrible in that regard either. What is TJ going to bring to the table that Prohm isn't currently? I tend to agree with the side that doesn't want TJ until convinced otherwise.

literallyT.J. is frankly killing it on the recruiting trail out in Las Vegas.
A competent staff.

TJ is toxic to me but it’s not his fault. It’s because of the Hoiberg lovers that refused to give Prohm a chance six years ago. It’s not because they had some crystal ball knowing that Prohm would fail, but because they wanted TJ. And because of that they were extremely and unfairly harsh from day 1.
I think to an extent no one was going to get a totally fair shot after Hoiberg. I think Prohms resume is more why people weren’t excited. We had someone with connections brought in and ready to go. We then changed course for someone who frankly wasn’t that impressive.TJ is toxic to me but it’s not his fault. It’s because of the Hoiberg lovers that refused to give Prohm a chance six years ago. You may be rewriting some history here.
Plenty of us, maybe even most, maybe even more than that, pushed for a head coach like Prohm instead of TJ to keep things rolling, then came to realize our mistake.
Don't know if TJ is the guy or not, but your broad brush just doesn't work on this coaching picture.

Ehhh....there was a big push for TJ and the powers that be around here did a lot of the “TJ is the best we are going to get” snd “it had to be TJ”. And that’s understandable, they are friends and know each other. But it still hit me the wrong way. It also hit me the wrong way when he came back to be an assistant knowing full well that Hoiberg was leaving. That’s not his fault and I sort of feel bad for him because I’ll go to my grave thinking he thought the head job was his when he came back but it still bothered me.
I guess it comes down to the fact that if he’s the guy, it is awfully hard to believe he wasn’t rooting for failure or that a lot of fans and others aren’t rooting for failure. Even though I know that is unfair.
I’m sure TJ will be the next coach. And I’m sure he will be fine and I’ll certainly cheer hard for his teams. I’m not a coaching expert. I wouldn’t be surprised if in 5 years I’m gushing about the hire. But I’d prefer just moving in a different direction.
TJ to Hoiberg is the Sherman to the Grant of perhaps the most successful period in our collective program history outside of the Fizer-Tinsley era run. If you want to "go back to what worked," then TJ is your man.
Ehhh...it didn’t work with McDermott. Maybe it was hoiberg and not TJ.
