2 ISU FB players have Coronavirus

Like I said, tell everyone above 55 to never leave their houses unless they want to get sick and die. Problem solved for everyone, right? Or is that telling them what do to how to live their lives?

I'm from the personal accountability side of things here. Anyone concerned about getting sick and dying must make their best personal decisions for THEIR health. I can't tell anyone how to be healthy beyond some platitude of eat fruits and veggies. You like issuing orders with arbitrary cut-offs. Not my style.

If you are at risk, YOU are at risk and you must look after your health and the health of your family. If you think masks are an infringement of your rights, I'm good with that. MY choice is to limit my outside exposure, and shop at places that have the consensus protocols in place, and wear my mask when appropriate. Walking in a park is not an appropriate place. Riding my mountain bike is not the appropriate place. Jogging is not the appropriate place.

My health and my family's health is my and my family's responsibility. I can shut everyone in, or I can let everyone free. Just so happens we're practicing all the guidelines because our family health is important to us.

I'm just trying to save some lives here man, we've already lost 120,000 people over 6 months to a fake news media-created flu hoax economy killer.

This is really out of my depth, but there is more than one school of ethics.

One is called deontological or something, and it’s a form of ethics where you have a set of rules and the morality of an action is judged based on the set of rules. One of these rules is often something resembling that your family and loved ones come first and to break that rule means your immoral, even if you broke it for the greater good. This is kind of like Spokane’s POV.

I’m more of a simple consequentialist, where the consequences of an action show whether the action was moral or not.

I don’t think either is necessarily right or wrong.

Again - I won't rely on the government to tell me how to be safe. The government took aged covid patients and put them into nursing homes where the virus did NOT exist. Those lives were sacrificed.

I'm all for saving lives and I'm going to start with mine and my family's lives. Nobody else's life is above them. That's how I direct my actions and that's what influences my decision making and risk evaluation. I'm not a careless, nor thoughtless man. Every life matters on the spectrum, but at the TOP of the spectrum as to importance it is me and my family. I'm hoping you do the same with your family.

The concepts of individual responsibility, and individually possessing the best possible information for your own situation?

That is not going to be popular here.

You won't rely on the government to tell you what to do, yet you're wearing masks in public at times and avoiding places you deem dangerous...like the government told you do to do? You didn't just magically create these ideas yourself.

And your still obsessing over the nursing homes, a problem I addressed earlier which you conveniently didn't respond to. Plus, IIRC, that was early in the cycle before reliable data came out showing how dangerous it was particularly for ages individuals. Hindsight's 20/20.

Again: best possible information ... which keeps changing because this is something that didn't exist in humanity until last winter. But, somehow, that's the excuse people are using to disregard any info they don't like, whether it's agreed upon as correct at any point in time or not.

These are the kinds of actions and attitudes that are killing people. We are all blessed here in nowhere Iowa mainly due to lack of pop density.

And some people are going to make decisions that negatively impact others because the information they believe in says that hardly anyone will die and those that do are old so whatever.

It was always a tool of the boomercide. Millennials created this in a laboratory to save Social Security for themselves!

No, not an excuse. It's a proven concept that, on average, people will use the available information and apply it in a way that best suites their particular situation, in the spirit of self preservation. Blanket solutions simply are not as efficient or as effective as this.

With the exception of wearing masks in public

Information that agrees with their pre-disposed political bias towards any issue, you mean. Sure, I totally agree with that. It's not the right thing to do, but it's factually-correct, and the politics of this pandemic has been no different from that point.

Seriously, the "blanket solution" here is just to not stand right next to people and wear a mask in times where you are next to people. People act like it's literal gas-chambering communofascism to suggest such things, when the only goal of those suggestions is just to beat the damn virus so we can stop doing it all later. These are the two things the variable science behind this pandemic have agreed upon regularly and with large consensus. But, wow, I'll be damned if that's not a bridge too far for millions of people.

Some fun logic:

Wants football and huge crowds which will have a tough go at it if the virus is not at containable levels.

For the virus to get to containable levels, wearing masks help.

Won't wear a mask.

Will complain if there's no football.

I guess I've never understood the people that are anti-mask?

I'd wear a hazmat suit in my living room if it meant I got to watch live football this fall.

Ha, I won't go that far...football is nothing but entertainment for me.

Other side of the coin - if you have underlying conditions that put you at greater risk, it is YOUR responsibility to remove yourself from harm for your protection and personal health.

But when we do, we get attacked as "hiding in our bedroom" and being "afraid" by the "back to normal" crowd who can't be bothered to take the slightest inconvenience for the lives of those who are at risk.

Just not true. It was known from the start that corona hit the elderly and the chronically ill extremely hard. LTCs locked down right at the start and received very little help from the government.
