In Memoriam: Ames Business/Restaurants

No, there was/is a development planned. At one point they even wanted a pedestrian bridge over the train tracks.
Also Starbucks is moving from their current location to where KFC/Long John Slivers use to be for the development plan.

to where KFC/Long John Slivers use to be

Those are two different spots. The old LJS (now Abelardo's) is farther west down the block. The KFC and Taco Time lots have been combined into one lot for Starbucks.[/QUOTE]

Interesting - are there public plans anywhere? I was just going off what my parents, who still live in Ames, told me while we were back last summer.

This was the first iteration, back in Nov. 2017. It's been scaled down quite a bit since then: https://www.amestrib.com/news/20171...lincoln-way-development-downtown-parking-ramp

And a few details in the story about the Mandarin demo: https://www.amestrib.com/business/20191212/mandarin-comes-down-making-way-for-new-development

NorthCyde (old Battlecry's BBQ, old Valentino's) closed up last month.

Still missing Mongolian Beef from the Mandarin, along with their sizzling rice soup.

El Azteca has a second place in Somerset and is building a new building near Dayton Ave.

For those who don't get to Ames often, The Cafe people opened a new place in the research park called Provisions. Great spot. Very much needed on the south side of town.

Minsky's in Campustown, and House of Hunan behind North Grand Mall. I miss those two places.
