Matt A did the staffs (extremely) dirty work when it came to recruiting. He would be what most consider a fall guy if **** hit the fan. There was a couple reasons why he left. Part of it came from someone higher up. Also, believe what you want, but because of that reason was why Fred left.

God?

Maybe said higher up didn't want a repeat of Wayne Morgan shenanigans and maybe said hire up wasn't happy with the anointed one fooling around with MN without advising said hire up?

I could see Fred disagreeing with Pollard on how to handle these things. Fred probably wanted distance from them. Pollard probably wanted him to be more actively involved and hold guys accountable, not just protect them. May explain why Prohm is a better fit with Pollard.

Matt would be a great fit at Nebraska where they wrote the book on looking the other way and covering up serious problems! Pollard is the anti-Husker in this regard!

I've relayed this on here before. When Royce was on campus he was stalking a female student athlete in his car and only left when she called another men's basketball player who she was friends with to come show up in the parking lot of her apartment. When that player reported the incident to Fred and Matt he was told it would get handled. Suffice it to say, nothing happened except more harassment from Royce.

I’ll never understand why anyone would think the right thing to do in a situation like this is to inform the basketball coach.

I know this isn't the best comparison, but at Penn State some people's inclination was to report to Paterno instead of the proper authorities.

Is there something about the culture of college sports that makes people prefer trying to handle things "in house?"

Yeah a message board 8 years ago seems like the right outlet for this. Great call

I will say this. When the NCAA cracks down on infractions, the coaches usually get out of town before sanctions hit, leaving the athletic department to deal with the mess. I can see why Pollard would have wanted Abdelmassih gone if he was doing shady stuff. I can also see how that would piss off Hoiberg. Kudos for Pollard for not giving in, if that's how it went down.

St Johns fans aren't happy about this from what I've seen. They have far more to be upset about than we do
