A lot of butt hurt in this thread. He didn't leave us high and dry, as we're doing quite well, thank you. I'm sure that I'd feel differently if the cupboard had been left entirely bare, but it wasn't. Sure, there was an awkward year last year as we transitioned with the dead recruiting at the end of his tenure, but he left Coach Prohm with enough to have great success in his first two years, and now we're in his fourth year, with a really talented team that's going dancing as a 6.

I'd also feel differently if he was looking at Iowa or KU (and possibly any other team in the Big 12). Otherwise, I don't really care at this point.

Just checking in to see if Fred coming back to the college ranks is a real thing?...

Any new rumors?

Just seems to me Fred's career trajectory put him in the NBA in some capacity.

Had friends get their picture taken with Jack and Fred at the United Center on Sunday. Fred was sporting a Sparty shirt. I know the "N" on the Nebraska's football helmets stand for "knowledge", but unless Fred fell for that brainwashing already .... I doubt he goes there. Just my thoughts.

Fred to Nebby is all about nothing other than Fred keeping his name out there. All Fred has to do is make a few 'inquiries' from time time to time and he'll be listed for every job out there. Great marketing tactic by Fred.

1) his coaching was destroyed during his time with the Bulls. I know Gar/Pax, and all that. But Thibs was not damaged by his affiliation with them. Christ, Vinny Del Negro got another job after coaching the bulls also.

Fred has a finite amount of time left to do this. His agent and van gundy gave him a free spot to keep his name out there when he was in town for Baylor. Now it’s finding a place to land.

I will say I think the esteem his abilities are held in is slightly inflated on here. And it will be interesting to see where he ends up. Maybe he gets the blueblood job everyone on here thinks he will. But if you’re starting at Nebraska as your first rumor, it will be a good show to see him transition the pr to a better job.

First national hyped rumor was UCLA. The Nebby 'inquiry' by Fred is just one of many to follow. Agree the Nebby job is way down on the desirable list, but Fred is just selling. Many a sales guy will say "any exposure is good exposure". But, that's why I've never like Sales.

^ This. He's a businessman and coming to Ames and than leaving were just business moves for him. He doesn't, and won't, have to settle for a lower tier job like Nebraska.

Lol, nothing will happen to Kansas. They’ll get the North Carolina treatment.

I live around a few Husker football fans here in Omaha and the vast majority seem to be passionate and hopeful that their team can return to being a nationally competitive team. Same as how the vast majority of ISU basketball fans I know were before Hoiberg was hired and it happened. They fill Memorial Stadium every game even when they are struggling, same as ISU does for their teams. Not one Husker fan I know thinks they are ever going to rip off 3 national titles in 4 seasons again. Both fan bases have a delusional 2% at the extreme end of the spectrum. Don't base opinion of any fan base off your interaction with folks from the delusion 2%.

The fact you had to say "Husker football fans" says it all. If Ames and Lincoln were the same, it'd just be Husker fans.

I think his reputation is deservedly high at the college level (maybe not the elite name out there, but not too far down the list). There's something to be said for taking a team that hadn't been dancing in a while and taking them to several tournaments in a row, including the final two as a 3 seed.
