They advertise plenty on tv, at least this way their money is going to something they love, not a broadcast company. Don't care for the field naming, don't want it to take away from Jack Trices legacy. 1.5 mil isn't worth it imo.

Calling the field itself 'MidAmerican Field' isn't worth 15 mil to you? What the ****?

Nope. That wasn’t really that big of a thing back then. Cyclone Stadium was the safe name for the old white men.

They named the field in 1975. I’m guessing they were still hoping a large donor would step forward at that point. You get larger funds for names on a building or structure than a field.

I can't say about Iowa for sure but most utility commissions won't allow "goodwill" advertising or sponsorships in rates....in other words, the shareholders pay for it. The exception is safety or "prudent" advertising for energy efficiency efforts. Most people don't understand this and assume customers are paying for all advertising which isn't true.

But . . . how does an Energy Company make money other than by charging rates?

I mean, ultimately, you can't just say "take it from the shareholders" because that shareholder value comes from . . . making money . . . which comes from charging rates.

What am I missing?

I thought is was No-Name Stadium until 1983 when it became Cyclone Stadium and later Cyclone Stadium/ Jack Trice Field. Prior to 1983 (or whenever it was), it was often called No-Name Stadium or Cyclone Stadium by default.
