I love hearing MidAmerican commercials and promotional stuff like this that I'm paying for (along with all of their other customers), when I don't have a choice of a different provider.

I don't particularly mind that I don't have a choice of a different provider because that presents a lot of logistical utility challenges, but the rest doesn't make sense to me.

I can't say about Iowa for sure but most utility commissions won't allow "goodwill" advertising or sponsorships in rates....in other words, the shareholders pay for it. The exception is safety or "prudent" advertising for energy efficiency efforts. Most people don't understand this and assume customers are paying for all advertising which isn't true.

Makes me want to switch electrical companies. Opps, not an option. OK, Then I'll just switch natural gas providers.. Errr, can't do that either. Makes me wonder why the are spending $15MM on advertising.
I have Alliant for electricity and MidAmerican for gas. I'm not sure how that works but apparently it does..

Better than Consumers for electric and MidAmerican for gas

Why pay one company a large base service fee when you can pay two?

Alliant for electric, Black Hills for gas when I was still living in Iowa. Now I pay it through the parent company out of Denver for my Florida apartment. Stupid world.

I hate the naming of the field thing, but I'll take the money without blinking an eye. I likes dem monies.

Didn't they try for years to get a naming sponsor before finally calling it "Jack Trice Stadium"?

No, it was called Cyclone stadium and Jack Trice field because the old white power players weren’t on board with Trice stadium until a student led group finally got it done in the 1990’s. Shoulda been long before that.

Still, wasn't part of the delay in calling it "Jack Trice Stadium" related to hoping that a naming sponsor would come through?

It helps that 2 of the VP's of the company are ISU alums and hugh fans. Honestly advertising for energy companies in general doesn't make sense since they have contracts with the cities, either you use them or don't have power, those are your options. This seems more like a way to get tax deductions or something but what do i know.

Nope. That wasn’t really that big of a thing back then. Cyclone Stadium was the safe name for the old white men.

Hearing your stories of which providers you were forced to take just makes me more and more happy to live in Texas. I can choose any provider in the state and with that competition you get crazy deals. I get free nights and weekends electricity. It's awesome.

I would say it sure is a name change. For better or worse, it dilutes the "Jack Trice Stadium" label.

Yeah, I disagree. WHO labeled it as a name change on FB (likely to get misled ruffled feather responses), and it didn't make much sense to me.

I've never really thought ____ field at ____ stadium diluted the stadium itself - then again, I'm not really one to get worked up over something so trivial, either.

They advertise plenty on tv, at least this way their money is going to something they love, not a broadcast company. Don't care for the field naming, don't want it to take away from Jack Trices legacy. 1.5 mil isn't worth it imo.
