Where they love the governor
The Pokey Stix thread got me thinking about all the places I miss in Ames that have closed. What are yours?

Off the top of my head:

Gumby's: Pokey Stix and Pepperoni rolls
La Fuente: Margarita Challenge! Solid mexican food, although El Azteca topped it when they came to town.
Battles: The original location, went downhill a bit once they moved to Welch and owner died.
Elwood Drive: Screw University Boulevard.

I agree with these. Will add:
DaVinci's - was too expensive to eat all the time, but every time there was a treat. Had a professor treat us to lunch there after our lab practical final exam went down in flames.

I'm still sore about The Other Place.

I'm still miss it. Pizza, tenderloin, $5 double long island iced tea on Friday's. Think it had more to do with property/facility issues than anything else. We've gone to the one in Ankeny a few times to fill our Other Place cravings.

I liked Diamond Dave's at the Mall. Really miss Battle's BBQ!! I could drink the sauce!!

Off the top of my head:

Gumby's: Pokey Stix and Pepperoni rolls
HomeTeam Pizza: Dirt cheap drunk food, 3 mediums for $10. Plus they had a cheesy commercial shot at Sterling.
Angies: Didn't seem to last long but that was a great after bar spot, always packed, good breakfast.
La Fuente: Margarita Challenge! Solid mexican food, although El Azteca topped it when they came to town.
The Truck Stop: Great food just a little out of the way. Cyclone Slam ftw
Battles: The original location, went downhill a bit once they moved to Welch and owner died.

Elwood Drive: Screw University Boulevard.

Valentinos (at the old mall location) - I worked there so enjoyed half off on the buffet. Also loved their formaggio cheese pizza and home made creamy italian dressing.

There was a Chinese restaurant on Welch Avenue across from the Subway. I can't remember the name of it. They had some of the best fried shrimp dishes. I was never a fan of Chinese food before I went there and most Chinese since has been a disappointment in comparison.

Anyone remember the name of it?

EDIT: Many remembered it was called Cocost, and it was awesome.

Cous Cous? Behind the ATM which was convenient because it was cash only?

I miss the old drive in movie theatre. Also, as a kid Hardees was at the Mall. They had this helicopter table you could eat at.

Let's see - can't forget Ruttles or The Garden Cafe.

Didn't they redo the movie theatre at the mall so now it's not dollar movies anymore? Those were good times.

I also just did a walking tour of Ames on Google Street view and man things have changed. How did the Taco Bell become a Dunkin Donuts? If you were at house parties in that area it was an easy stop.
