NBA: ***Official NBA Draft and Offseason Thread***

I know this is par for the course for fans when a guy leaves but still is dumb. It didn't even dawn on me until reading about him finally signing there that I got reminded that Coach Stevens was his coach in college. I'm sure that relationship was probably 80% of the reason he went to Boston. And to the tweet about it being easier in the East, well hell yes.

If I was him and seeing how stacked the West is I would go East too.

The west is going to be very interesting next year. The warriors are still better than anyone else but I wouldn't be surprised if they got upset in the playoffs. Reaching the finals 4 years in a row is incredible hard.

I would be pretty surprised. There's not a lot of "upsets" in a 7 game series

Maybe this might be an overreaction but next I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that it may take 50 wins to make the playoffs in the west.

You're right but it still happens. Also someone on GS could get hurt. The spurs had a chance against the warriors before Kawhi got hurt. They were up 26 at GS

While I think the Spurs would have given the Warriors a decent series I don't think they could have won more than a game or two.

No way man, sorry. And I don't much care for the dubz before you assume anything.

Idea (stolen from Bill Simmons article): The Clippers need to relocate Seattle.

Owner lived in Seattle for 30+ years. Seattle deserves a basketball team. Clippers will NEVER come out of the shadow of the Lakers.

Thoughts?

Media market might make a difference. LA is the #2 media market in the country. Seattle is somewhere in the low teens. That said, there's more competition in L.A., so maybe it's not as big of a difference between the markets.

I'm positive they've looked at it because, as you said, Ballmer has connections to the Seattle area. I'm guessing the numbers still favor L.A. or you'd be hearing more about this.

I wouldn't. Why would you leave the second largest market in the league for a city where there's no guarantee the fans will come back? The franchise is more valuable in LA regardless of them having top billing or playing second chair to the Lakers. And I'm not sure Ballmer could get the league's OK to move even if he wanted to. Seattle is more valuable to the league as a bargaining chip then it would be as an actual NBA city. Every time a franchise starts making noise about a facility upgrade or a new one entirely, they can float out Seattle as a potential spot for relocation.

They're always going to be second fiddle. But why reward a city that failed? Seattle blew their chance. Would they play in Key Arena? (That place is a dump.) The Clippers brass would have to build a new arena for that to happen. Are the Clippers worth that as an organization? (I would also drop the "Clippers" namesake too for Super Sonics again for sure though.)

As a KC resident, I think the NBA would do well in KC, but I guess you could say that KC/Omaha couldn't hold on to the Kings back in the day either. (KC has been in the discussion for an NHL team recently too.) But, sports are important in the midwest, and are well attended. Not to mention, I would like for them to take away the limelight from KU if an NBA team were to be added here, knocking them down a peg. But that's just me.

I think the Supersonics actually were pretty popular during the Gary PAyton/Shawn Kemp years... there was just a drought after those players left.

They are building a new arena in LA (Inglewood) for the Clippers. Right across the street from the future home of the Chargers/Rams. They're currently third in line at the Staples Center behind the Lakers and the Kings.

Ok, if that's the case, and they're already considering a new arena, then I'm doubly sure that they've already run the numbers on Seattle, and they show that staying in L.A. is more profitable. It's as simple as that. Even though they're second banana, they think they can make more money in SoCal. The bottom line means everything.

It's not. In 2014 Phoenix won 48 games and missed the playoffs, it wouldn't surprise me to see something like that again. Although, if the bottom of the West teams are more competitive than expected that could make for some more parity and lower win totals.

Now that the dust is settling a bit, how about some conference power rankings? Off the cuff, I'd go with:

Western Conference
1. Golden State
2. Houston
3. San Antonio
4. OKC
5. LA Clippers
6. Minnesota
7. Denver
8. Portland
9. Utah
10. Dallas
11. Memphis
12. New Orleans
13. LA Lakers
14. Sacramento
15. Phoenix

Eastern Conference
1. Cleveland
2. Boston
3. Toronto
4. Washington
5. Milwaukee
6. Philly
7. Miami
8. Charlotte
9. Detroit
10. Indy
11. Chicago
12. New York
13. Orlando
14. Brooklyn
15. Atlanta

God, the West is a meat grinder. It's still the Warriors and everyone else, but the Rockets have done enough to make things interesting. I love the Russ/PG pairing in OKC, and the Patrick Patterson signing was a sneaky good move. He'll feast on open looks off drive and kicks by Westbrook. Plus him and PG should make OKC a really tough defensive unit.

And in the East, even with the Cavs front office in disarray I still don't think anyone did enough to move past them. Maybe Boston, but I don't beleive Ainge is done yet. I think he's holding onto all those trade assets and waiting for the Pelicans to implode. If everyone stays healthy in Philly they have a really interesting young group, but with Embiid you never know. I almost like the Bucks enough to put them in the top 4, but Giannis has to prove he can make teams pay for playing off him by developing a consistent jumper.

Sounds like the Celtics are trading Avery Bradley to Detroit for Marcus Morris to clear cap space for the Heyward signing.

I would have preferred they keep him over Smart or Crowder but he will probably be getting big time money after this season and the Celtics will also have to pay IT.
