Not a great clip for Fred...

I'd say that's not a great clip for Butler. He seems like a grade A jackass, me first player.

This is my perception of the problem with the Bulls, and many NBA programs in general. The players have started "running" the league, and even hurting their own teams with their actions and mouths because they feel they are bigger than their team.

Fred was the owners response to the players complaining about Thibs being too controlling, now Fred is TOO loose. How about instead of blaming the coach, you blame your own play.

Just this week Lebron running to the media about Carmelo....if I'm a NBA owner or coach, I'm staying clear of diva complexes.

There aren't supposed to be any dumb questions in this world, but this is right up there, even if it is hypothetical. Fred will never return here to coach, period. Regardless of the circumstances.

I've wondered if he might be interested in being an AD someday. Maybe when he's older and looking for a change from NBA front office work. It's not that different from being a GM or VP of a professional sports team. He's got a business background and given his status in the state of Iowa, he could accomplish just about anything. Still plenty of glory to be had, albeit with a smaller paycheck.

Fred had to know what he was getting into. He wanted so bad to coach in the NBA, that he took the job.

If the players don't respect him their will always be that guy on his team.

I think his college players respected him to a degree, or at least really liked him, but the informal reports of blow ups in the UAB game locker room, McKay not practicing, etc. would indicate a real lack of respect

It's tricky---we live in a world where toxic behaviors are rewarded with having your own reality show and positions of power, so not sure what you can do when your job is to win but your best players exhibit behaviors.

the united center is like cyclone kryptonite. fizer/floyd/hoiberg....ended niang's career...heck even the chris colvin/gmac blow up was at the UC.

i don't think we'll ever get a talented kid from chicago...sorry Drob.

Wow. This is serious. I-290 should have a warning sign for traffic coming from Ames.

While the UAB game was awful, I'm not sure how the McKay think was a lack of respect. It is a different way to run things, but Fred was clearly very successful with it.

Serious hypothetical question: If Fred gets fired, would you want Jamie to fire Prohm and rehire Hoiberg?

I legit don't think I'd support that. So far, Prohm is recruiting better than Hoiberg and actually is coaching teams to play defense.

Wolves are garbage and have been garbage for the past 10 years. And before that they only made it to the conference finals once. I keep hearing how these guys are studs but their record shows otherwise.

Nobody with a brain would take the Bulls job over the Wolves job right now.

no offense intended but this comment is rehashed in every single Bulls/NBA thread. We aren't taking him back and it would never be on the table. Fred came out and said he hated recruiting and college ball is heavily dependent on recruiting. the only positions Fred would ever eligible for here is AD and that would be a stretch.

Didn't really read the thread and couldn't tell what Butler was trying to say. At least he is the best talent and can score.

I just look at the Box Scores every now and again and their 3 point shooting seems like it is always in the 25% range. Definitely not what you would expect from a Hoiball team.

Fred was successful because he was willing to take players who had issues elsewhere but could play the game. He was wildly successful with this, but to expect he would be universally successful is unreasonable. Just making the Royce White experiment work for as long as it did was an accomplishment unlike any other.

I get that it was successful...but did the players respect him or just benefit from doing what they wanted?

I remember having coaches that allowed more freedom of behavior...I don't recall them being as respected as coaches who held players accountable.

I'm not saying it didn't garner success or you can't be flexible in certain situations, I just wonder how respected Fred really was by players that were enabled.

Bulls front office needs to go. You don't hire a coach for a certain system and then surround him with players that can't execute that system. Also, Butler is not a leader and is selfish. Bulls should just trade him and get draft picks and rebuild.

CFH is an offensive minded coach who took over a defensive minded roster.

There's a reason McDermott's playing time TRIPLED in Fred's first year.

So when you trade your defensive minded star players in Rose and Noah, you go out and get two offensive minded studs in free agency, right?

Wrong. You get Wade and Rondo, two dudes I don't want shooting on my team.

I would hope Jamie hires Fred as some part of the athletic department administration rather than replacing a successful Prohm.

That would really suck for Prohm. Some people are pining for Fred while he's coaching at a different level hundreds of miles away. Think how bad it would be with him sitting on campus.

I think Fred is done with college athletics. NBA coaching to NBA front office to swimming in his vault of money like Scrooge McDuck by the time he's 55. Good work if you can find it. Fred is a big boy and if didn't know what he was getting into, he should have. He'll be fine.
