The only time I've ever had a scallop is at Ohana Steak House. It was amazing, though it probably had more to do with the sauce they put on it

I have never had a scallop. Do you just pan fry them really quick in some butter and junk?

Yes I pan fry them in butter. They don't take long to cook.

I'm probably going to need to eat them this weekend now that have been talking about them.

Basically, yeah. You want to get the outside a little brown and crusty in a hot pan, but don't overcook them or they get rubbery. Sea scallops are big - 1 1/2" to 2" in diameter - and can be cooked and eaten as the main dish with just a little salt. Bay scallops are usually only about 1/2" in diameter and are usually mixed into a sauce, where they essentially get poached.

I feel bad for salmon - it deserves at least one vote. When prepared by a pro, duck is delicious. And jalapeño brats from Fareway... But it has to be beef. A rare to medium rare steak is the best.

Great. Where the hell am I supposed to get scallops in Cedar Rapids at 10:00 at night??

Ive grown tired of beef and am on a pork kick right now. Give me a 315lb pig that was finished at 290 and Im happy. Pork shoulder steak is where it's at. Best cut of pork imo. I have a hard time with store bought pork, packers dont want big cuts so they want to keep the weight down which kills the marbling. Beef is a 2nd, but Ive eaten steak so many days of the week my whole life im over it. Id rather eat cube steak anymore than a ribeye.

Elk is better than beef. Especially when you shoot it, gut it and haul the meat down the mountain in your pack.

When you consider what is the best meat, I think about other things than just my favorite cut and prep of a specific kind. My favorite meat to eat is a medium-rare ribeye steak. But beef as a whole is not the best meat.

Pork is the best meat. It is relatively cheap. All types of pork are good tasting. You can do so many different things with it. BACON, ham, sausage, pork chop, pork steak, pork RIBS (>> beef ribs), pork roast, etc. You can make sandwiches out of it. You can eat it like a steak. You can use bacon with nearly everything. And again, the price is usually right.

Chicken would be the next best meat. Mostly because it is very cheap. But it also tastes pretty good most of the time. Wings are delicious. You can BBQ it, fry it, roast it, etc. Sometimes chicken can be pretty "blah" though, and you need to be careful when you are cooking it so you don't dry it out.

Beef would be next, because you can do a lot of things with it as well and it usually tastes good to amazing. The main drawback with beef is price. It is considerably more expensive than pork and chicken. Overcooked beef doesn't really have that great of a flavor, and you really need to make sure you have fat incorporated in it to make sure the flavor is there. Hamburger is very versatile, but can be blah. Roast beef is usually good but not always. Beef ribs << pork ribs. When beef is cooked well it can taste the best, but it's not always easy. Again, price is the main drawback.

I literally feel a pain in my heart for people that are allergic to shellfish. All seafood is god's work, IMO.

friend has a serious allergy to all the major players, including shellfish. He followed his fiancee to her med residency.

In Maine. Maine. And he's like yeah, this great location is totally wasted on me.

I really like lamb, too. At least when we're on vacation or out. We never have it at home.

Probably use pork the most - I pretty much sub italian sausage in for hamburger. Lasagna, spaghetti, other pasta meals - hasn't failed me yet.

im surprised by all the pork love in this thread. My family was involved very heavy in ippa and it was surprising how many grillings we would do where people hadnt had pork in America. In the 90's and 2000's pork tried to be chicken and cut out all the fat (the good part) they were selling pigs at 240 w/ paylean sucking up fat. Pork sucks without fat. marble it like beef and it's gold.
