Lanning?

I think it's obvious by now that Richardson is not a Big 12 QB that can win games. Besides beating Kansas twice in his career has he beaten any other Big 12 school? Hell it took him till this season just to beat a Big 12 team as a starter and that was against a horrible KU team that he still managed to throw 2 interceptions against. I don't know why CPR is not cutting the cord on SR at QB and going with Lanning or even Rohach against TCU because he probably knows by now barring a miraculous turn of events in the remaining games he's probably getting fired after this season so why not play all your cards now and make that switch at QB because even if that blows up in your face at least you get fired knowing that you didn't hold back possibilities that might have changed the way the season ended and possibly save your job.

Re: How bad is Lanning?

Maybe we can use the barnwall for the kickers too since Paul said open competition.

Wally can paint a horizontal line on the barn. Hit above the line, you're a kicker. Hit below the line, you're a QB. The whole team can play, it'll be great!

Lanning threw in garbage time against a bad Texas Tech defense, but I thought he threw the ball quite well. Got rid of it quick, had good spin on the ball, and was accurate. WR's dropped two of his passes as well. ]/b]

I talked to someone within the program last year who told me if you put all the QB's together and had them runs drills for other college coaches, every college coach would take Lanning. Problem was what others have said, and that he doesn't have a clear grasp of what they want to do on offense. At this point though, I say you have to give him a shot to see what he can/can't do. I don't know if he is better than Sam, I just know what Sam is not. To be fair to Sam, he didn't coach the defense last week.

Probably didn't know what to do with a ball thrown correctly. No experience catching those

I've heard some of the same about Lanning and I still think SR is better, even though he played poorly last week.

I'm less concerned about our QB and more concerned about our defense (who just gave up a school record for yards) with TCU and Baylor coming up the next two weeks.

I'm not concerned about the defense because there is no amount of schematic changes or personnel changes that is going to save us there. Might as well get used to getting 700+ yards hung up pretty much every week.

Do we have to be last in defense again this year.

I don't agree with this. There are schematic changes that can/need to be made.

Lanning is not a high major QB. Theres a reason that we were his only QB offer. Hes a good athlete that almost everyone else projected to a different position.

why in the hell didn't we go after a JC Qb?

Nobody wants to go after a JuCo QB. It's hard to bring in someone who is already a junior and train them up to maybe spend one full season behind center and fully know what they are doing, given that the incoming year is spent learning the system. It's a very risky investment.

At this point you just as well start baptizing by fire.

SR isn't going to improve or be here next year. Hope he's doing well in school and has already landed a hot chick as the starting qb. If not he's officially 0/3.

You hear coaches at the elite schools speak of recruiting "winners" who just get it done on the field in multiple sports. But then again...some coaches don't just talk the talk....but walk the walk. So instead of all the talk about having the guy who gives you "the best chance to win" or "best upside" maybe it's time to roll back the tape and start giving the "natural winners" a chance.

Plus TT put up over 600 on TCU. We are not that far off on that side. A few adjustments and being in the game for more than 1.5 quarters would make a difference.

Our offense just makes it too comfortable for the other team's offense. We never make them sweat because we can't even keep up for a half let alone 3 quarters.
