PODCAST SUMMER SERIES: Five favorite games

What if moment: Georges Charge/Block is called charge, Kansas loses game and Big 12 Title with KSU (they tied)
Better what if.

What if Fizer returns for senior year in 00-01? Won Big 12 anyway and earned #2 seed (don't talk about rest).

Tinsley - Sully - Horton - Rancik - Fizer --- Plus Shirley and Pearson

Great job guys, really enjoyed listening to that podcast. Perfect way to pass some time and reflect on some great Cyclone memories during the off-season. To quote CW, "daddy likey."

Very entertaining, I think I could've listened for another hour! But how do you talk about the #1 game, and not even mention KO??? He single-handedly demolished OSU's D line on the last drive. Woody didn't even get touched on his TD run. Which reminds me, are you going to have Ben Bruns back on any podcasts? Love his analysis.

BTW, I'm still ****** about the FSU game in KC. Almost as most as much as the UAB debacle. Almost.

It's weird, I've been to almost 3 or 4 of those top road football wins in your lists and those are about the only road games I've ever attended. I was at the ISU upset at Iowa in the student section in 98' - ha talk about stuned, went to the first bowl game victory in Phoenix (also have a tupperware cup with some dirt), and was at the FSU game in Arrowhead in the corner that Seneca scored to tie the game. I was also in Shreveport for the bowl win in 2005? but that definitely doesn't belong on the list. The sad thing is that I did not attend the best home game wins (Colorado in 05' was in the parking lot) or OSU and only a few games here and there since then.

That tornado game day was just eerie. Everyone was really pretty darn lucky that those were not a little bit closer. I was stuck in the student lots south of the stadium and we really had no where to go. The cops drove down saying something but by that time we could see really dark clouds that looked like they were right over Hilton. Some were looking to bail to the creek bed in the woods, the same one that everyone was peeing in. I was keeping a very close eye and it looked to be north but a school bus isn't going to fare much better than a mobile home.

Tornado (4) started just west of Ames near the Highway 30 and Lincoln Way Split, according to the aerial survey. The tornado produced F1-F2 damage on the northwest fringe of Ames. It weakened as it moved northeast, before intensifying again and produced F2 damage to a farm site just south of Gilbert. F1 damage occurred as the tornado crossed highway 69. The tornado dissipated three miles south of Story City after a 10 mile track.

I remember trying to get to Vet Med from the student lots, and by the time we got there, the warning had passed. Wow, we were lucky.

Finished the Podcast earlier and just wanted to say keep up the good work guys! Between this and the FAWCAST I actually look forward to long road trips or mowing the lawn.

I don't know the best way to say this and not sound like a **** but the intros to these podcasts could be so much better. I used to be a DJ and did my own intros and spots. I love the content that you guys do and am a loyal listener. Just saying there is room for improvement there. Anyways, keep up the good work and I just being a picky *****.

I was 13 at the streaker game. I Remeber my dad yelled. "Look streaker. Wait don't look," and then covered my eyes. Todd Doxon lit it up that game

Seneca was definitely in. My seats were right there.

That was a great podcast! Although I'm 35 years old, and have never felt older that when I was listening to you guys describe the 1996 Big 8 championship game like it was ancient history!

My personal top 5 most memorable goosebump games:

1. ISU 27 Iowa 9, Football 1998, My freshman year at ISU and the upset that all other ISU upsets are measured against. I think you guys (thankfully for you) missed growing up in such a one sided and frankly irrelevant atmosphere for the Iowa/ISU game in the 80's and 90's prior to this game. (and the only game on this list that I didn't attend in person)

2. ISU 37 OSU 31, Football 2011. I had the same experience of being so jacked up from being at Jack Trice that I went home and watched the middle of the night ESPN replay in it's entirety!

3. ISU 77 OU 71, Basketball 2015. A game I will never forget being at. At halftime I turned to my old college roommate that I was attending a game with for the first time in 12 years and said "Well if we score 60 and hold them under 40 we've got this in the bag." Best prediction ever.

4. ISU 89 Texas 77, Basketball 2000. The Fizer-Mihm dunk game. Hilton magic at it's best as the best team in Cyclone history played what might have been their best game of the year to crush a #14 Texas team lead by the eminently hatable Chris Mihm. Punctuated by the baseline dunk by Fizer over Mihm that locked up the league POY for Fizer.

5. ISU 45 Missouri 31, Football 1996. My first ISU football game and Troy Davis ran for 378 yards. THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY EIGHT YARDS!

What does everyone else have?

We were in the student lot, but we walked to Hilton. And pretty sure we got there, stayed for a few minutes and walked back. Weird :twitcy:

My top-five (in person) ISU football memories. Obviously I was not present for #2 OSU, which will forever haunt me.

1. Iowa in Kinnick, 2002. Was surrounded by a sea of Iowa students, getting heckled like crazy in the first half. Never experienced such a turnaround in one game before. I didn't talk trash the second half but didn't need to. Just quietly reveled in Seneca's destruction of the Iowa team and fanbase.

2. Missouri at Jack Trice, 2000. I was 22 years old and had never seen my favorite team in a bowl game. Felt tears running down my cheeks as the clock hit zero, ISU secured win #6 and I realized Sage, Bruns, and company would be playing in the post-season.

3. Texas Tech, 2002. I've never witnessed the level of jubilation and pure joy as what happened in the Jack after "The Run". Still get chills thinking about that moment.

4. Colorado, 2005. Discussed plenty so far. Electric atmosphere and Big Play Curvey.

5. Iowa, 2001. The year the in-state rivalry was played the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and everyone knew that the winner was going bowling and the loser staying home. Adam Runk made a huge interception late to seal the deal.

Honorable Mention: Florida State, 2002. Even with the heartbreaking finish, it was awesome to hear the Cyclone fans chanting "I-S-U" as the players left the field. Defeated, but damn proud.

Tornado (11) was a brief touchdown on the southwest edge of the Ames City limits. This tornado was from the same parent cell as the previous tornado that touched down in Ames, but was distinct. The tornado was weak and lifted lawn chairs and caused some shingle damage. This tornado was ANTICYCLONIC in nature.

Yeah, no kidding about being ANTICYCLONIC!

One more note about the tornado game. A tornado bounced its way north of Lincoln Way just east of County Line Road, jumped over the house of our friends, then came down and destroyed a house about a 1/2 mile north of the tracks on North Dakota Road.

August 31, 1995 - I was in 3rd grade at the time and it is the first game I remember attending. Troy Davis ran for 291 and 3 touchdowns as we erased a 21-12 4th quarter deficit and beat Ohio 36-21. I remember it being a Thursday night and it was the first time I remember the excitement of being a Cyclone Fan.
I remember this game -- it was my freshman year at ISU. It was such a huge win after going 0-10-1 the previous year. I seem to recall the goal posts coming down...

Clearly my parents should have taken me to a game the year before then, me being the good luck charm and all...
