A lot of people saying that we need to continue with Fred's style of coaching. I agree. It was effective and the players we have are built for that system.

One problem I have with Prohm is that his teams have had a very low assist ratio. That is indicative of a lack of passing and crisp ball movement. Another issue I have is that Prohm's teams have really struggled on the Defensive Glass. In the physical Big 12 that is a real issue. I really think that Prohm would have a lot of struggles with the style of play in the Big 12 and adjusting to it. It is not Ohio Valley Conference basketball.

IMO, Underwood would be a better choice than Prohm. The guy knows the Big 12. He knows the landscape. I would take him over Prohm and and Drew.

I also think Otzelberger would do well. He is only 37 years old. But has a lot of exposure to high Major Basketball and knows what is involved. He is used to the crowds of 14,000 plus and coaching in front of them. And the physicality of the Big 12.

Altman, Otz, Underwood. All would be good. Altman a homerun hire. The other 2 are really underwhelming IMO.

Sort of agree. Prohm might be quite good, but he had a couple horses he was able to ride to much of his win total the last couple years. Low assists could point to that as well. At the P5 level there is a lot more talent than what he was competing against.

Give me TJ.

1. He recruits well
2. Knows the current players
3. Knows what ISU BB is about

AND Most impotantly......

4. He know how to play Hoiball and will continue the style of play. He was involved with game planning and knows Fred's system on how to make things work.

ALSO, the sooner ISU gets rid of Leath the better. This guy has been a pompous micromanaging indecisive ******* since he has been here (and this is not just in regards to the AD, everyone who works at ISU feels it).

The Otz lovers think that since Otz was the assistant under Hoiberg 3 seasons ago, that he will be able to coach vicariously through Hoiberg. So they think it will be almost like Hoiberg never left. And we'll just be playing Hoiball all over everyone. It's a complete fantasy land, and reality will make them look like fools.

I don't think it will be just like Hoiball but it will be the closest thing to Hoiball that we can get. He did game planning and learned the system under Fred. So with the success he saw from the system why would you think he wouldn't use the same/very similar system.

I am not bashing you at all because you are just using the resources you have in front of you, but this is a perfect example of why we need to get behind and support whoever it is that the AD hires. We really don't know anything about these guys, in comparison to those making the decisions.

I'll definitely get behind whoever they hire (although it will take some time to come around to the Otz possibility). Just like to discuss the current pool of coaches.

But once again......We would be telling Otzelberger we will take a low-major coach.....let's say it is Ohio Valley Conference Murray State Coach Steve Prohm.....over him. The message is pretty clear. You can be one of the best Assistants in the Country. You can be one of the best at your job. But we will NEVER consider you for a Head Coaching job unless you leave and get a Head Coaching job.

When Fred was hired that was 5 years ago. Otzelberger was 32 years old. And Fred was ........Fred Hoiberg.....the Mayor. WHY do you think that Otzelberger left a couple years ago?? It was to get some additional experience at another Power 5 Conference school. It was to prove to everyone that he could recruit players anywhere, regardless of location. Plus his wife had some ties to the Pacific Northwest at that time.

Now move forward 5 years. Otzelberger is now 37 years old. He is at the point where he wants to make a move to become a head coach. He does not want to be a lifetime assistant. Especially to guys who are about his age that are not named Fred Hoiberg, and that have resumes as unimpressive as these low and mid major coaches. Their resumes are no better than his.

Otzelberger will move on if he does not get the Iowa State job. Count on it.

Stormin's arguement is what pisses me off about the ordeal. "well he'll leave if he isn't hired." Then leave.

He was either promised the head coaching gig (which leaves a sour taste in my mouth), OR he was hired as an assistant so he should be happy as an assistant.

IMO I'd like to think we could pull a coach from another P5 school that's had some success.

That is unrealistic. Almost no one pulls a P5 coach to fill a vacancy. Here's the P5 schools that have hired a coach this year:

Florida: from LTU
Texas: from VCU
Tennessee: from the scrap heap
St. John's: from the NBA, kinda
Arizona St: from Buffalo
Mississippi St: from the scrap heap
Alabama: from the NBA scrap heap

Not one P5 school hired away another P5 school coach, and that includes more prestigious programs like Texas and Florida. It is an unrealistic expectation.

I just don't see why that, if he was hired to continue being an assistant, why he was only signed to a 1-year deal. That to me screams "coach in waiting".

I could if I wanted to, but I've donated a very good amount to the school too. I'm looking to get a Mercedes Benz or a Grandfather's Clock for my next purchase.

The point is we may even have to go above and beyond even to what we payed Fred. If they're not interested that's one thing, but if they're willing to listen, show them the green.

He goes....GRANDFATHERS CLOCK FOR MY NEXT PURCHASE. Oh my god, im dying.

Girl comes over....Hey, check out this big *** tower clock I have. Ummmmm I have to go you weirdo.

That's a good point I suppose. I guess what I'm getting at is that we're an attractive job if we pay enough. You just have to be able to outbid what the current salaries are.

I'd also note though, that I feel we're a better job than all but Texas and Florida.

He was also an assistant to Mac, and his latest mentor wasn't exactly Hoiball.

It could just as easily scream, "Change in coaching regime with a new staff that might not include TJ." JFC.

I agree the odds if it happening are miniscule, but who knows what the pull of a top 5 team will do?

I'm all over Team Krystkowiak. He lost Delon Wright to the NBA, and could coach another Cousy award winner!
