He'd likely be a candidate to stay here longer than a mid major coach would with success. TJ doesn't seem to have NBA aspirations like Fred.WGAF? Fred loves the school. Doesn't mean anything in this business.

Dont disagree. Nobody has a magic crystal ball..it's one of two ways..you either are ok with a guy who hasn't coached a single college game and recruited kids while he's been the HC or u want a mid major coach who has those experiences to lead a potential top 10 roster next year.
Just to play devils advocate you could also spin it with " a guy that has been around ranked teams and helped recruit and game plan top talent" vs "a guy that has never been around a p5 school in his life and has never been around a top 10 roster" (Prohm specifically not Underwood).
To be clear I'm not pro or anti anybody at this point.
One thing that bothers me most about Proehm is that he lost the majority of tight ballgames he was in. Look at all the tight ballgames we play and how many we pulled out.
IMO, the 4 candidates to get interviews are not splashy hires. NONE of them. Drew, Proehm, Underwood, and Otzelberger. Not a splashy hire in the bunch.
To be perfectly honest, of those four, I would pick Otzelberger because of the way he has handled the team and then press, and the whole situation in an exemplary manner. He has basically knocked it out of the park in how he has handled everything. He has said the right things and done the right things. A Baptism by Fire and he has passed with flying colors. With no Altman and with the choices of those four coaches, I would go with Otzelberger. IMO, he is the safest choice......and could have the highest ceiling of all four of those guys. Otzelberger will get good players to come to Ames Iowa. Not sure the others can do that.
The low-level coaches haven't coached a game as a top-25 team, or in a league like the Big XII.
But it the biggest problem with this inane debate is that it's a resume debate, and much more than the resume goes into the hiring, especially regarding someone who has worked at the university for 7 years.
You also have to factor in that TJ has experience with the current group and has learned from 3 different head coaches, has seen what works and what hasn't worked in those 3 jobs. I'm not saying I'm right or you're wrong, I just think it's for the betterment of discussion for that to be mentioned. I'm not necessarily pro-TJ all the way, but I'd at least like him to stay on staff and would be more than happy if he was named HC.Dont disagree. You are missing not just the Mod forum, but also the Insiders forum:wink:
I like Drew. I think he could add some defensive things that would really help next year's team. And if he has half of his brother's recruiting funding, he can recruit to ISU.
You don't have to be a smartass. He's big into recruiting and seems to love the college game.Link?
Where is this secret Insiders forum?
I don't know that you can really ignore that TJ is a great fit with ISU and the mid-major guys might not be.People want the best coach available...not the person that knows Iowa State the best.

Likely to gain a different perspective and experience just like anyone else would while working towards their dream job. Makes him a more attractive candidate for a head coach job.Why did he leave for a lateral job before? What would stop him from doing it again?

Prohm's NCAA Tourney team was ranked as high as 9th, and was ranked 12th going into the tournament. They pounded Colorado State in the first round and lost to Marquette in the round of 32.
