Strangely it has a similar feel that while many thought Hoiberg was doing his job at ISU he had been flirting with, planning with, and ultimately leaving to go to the Bulls for some time now. Much like the Chizik situation the fans were totally duped (see the Diallo story from today) by Hoiberg.

Fortunately there isn't a truckload of Hoiberg coins that Cyclone fans will have to try and get rid of this time around.

What a stupid post. Chizik and Hoiberg hardly did the same thing. While everyone knew Chizik was never going to stay at ISU permanently, he's the guy that coined the term "firmly entrenched". Whereas Hoiberg has been honest with Cyclone Nation from day 1 that he has always been interested in coaching in the NBA. Further, Chizik left this program in worse shape than he found it, whereas Hoiberg has ISU as a preseason top 5 team nationally. And for the record, Hoiberg hasn't even left yet (it's likely only a matter of time, but as of 5:53 pm Central time Hoiberg is still ISU's coach).

I worry about the day-to-day lives of the posters who act like Fred owes them a career in Ames.

When has Fred said it was his dream to coach NBA? I seem to recall a press conference where it was his dream to coach ISU.

I feel so bad for all these players he's abandoning, that believed in him.

I feel bad for the posters who spend time in a thread that they don't care about.

I'm perfectly capable of talking about my disappointment that a successful, hometown coach doesn't want to be here without it affecting my life.
 
Here is my crazy theory of the day:

Hoiberg knew he was gone before the season even started in 2014. His wife followed the Bulls organization on twitter (Only NBA team she follows) sometime after we got Hallice Cooke (May) and before we got Deonte Burton (December).

He said this approximately 2 months ago... "What do I not love about Ames? It's God's country. It's a place that was phenomenal to be raised in," Hoiberg said Wednesday in Louisville where the Cyclones prepared to take on No. 14 UAB in the South region second-round matchup. "I grew up four blocks from campus. I used to walk to the basketball games, walk to the football games. I was a ball boy for both programs and just fell in love with Iowa State athletics. My kids grew up huge Iowa State fans. My parents still live there. My in laws still live there. My brother lives there. Just have so many connections and ties to that town. It's really been a dream come true for me to be home coaching the school that I absolutely idolized growing up."

A dream come true to be coaching Iowa State... apparently not anymore.

Im not sure you could say Chizik left the program in worse shape when they went to three bowl games with a lot of his players.

This is ABSOLUTELY not true. Please find ONE link / quote where Hoiberg talks about the NBA. The only indication was that his buyout for the contract was 500K for an NBA team vs 2Mil for college. THAT'S IT.

It'll depend on how successful his replacement is. If successful, Hoiberg will be known as the coach that turned the program around and got the ball rolling. If not, he'll be seen as turning his back on the program when we were on the verge of something great (it doesn't matter if that's really true).

If we end up in the tank again, it will be absolutely true.
