BDJ

Everyone has to have that one big time game before they're unconditionally welcomed by the fan base, I guess.

Ever heard of a give-n-go? Perfect place for one, really, but Monte went the other way for it.

Yeah, I would rather not see him push off like that, but I would say he was competing, which I like.

I know what a give and go is. All I'm saying is your second point, but apparently that makes me a bad guy.

I noticed after he got fouled hard last night, teammates were quick to get to him to calm him down or something.

There's a feeling that he's real emotional about things, very quickly.

okay agreeing with "rather not see him push off" is very different from "He lost a lot of respect from me "

And considering you weren't much of a fan of his to begin with, it makes your post seem obtuse.

Yeah, I forget the exact nature of play but I'd say he was ready to throw down.

First of all, he's not Kane...so let's let that go. This forum is bad about comparisons and it's really not fair or logical to do that.

I think BDJ has done a remarkable job of humbling himself a little bit. He's a smaller fish in a bigger pond here and McKay didn't make that any better...in fact, he's seen playing time dwindle substantially...and for a guy like him, where I think ego is fairly large, it's impressive that his body language and teamwork hasn't seemed to have diminished too much.

Last night he had a couple silly drives where he was out of control...but as others have said, Fred will correct that stuff.

Let's be honest, with the exception of a couple of games, our competition hasn't been stellar so let's give the guy an opportunity to play hard under some pressure. He may just surprise us. And, there will be a game where he'll save our *** and everyone will be like "BDJ for President".

We'll see, I think it may prove to be better than it was viewed pre-season.

I love this board, so entertaining, insightful at times and the best part, when I'm feeling down as a fan, I can come here and think, "Well, at least I'm not that guy." Obviously it wasn't his best game of the year, but BDJ still contributed quite a bit. Nine rebounds is nothing to look past. If it were just him not scoring points, that would be one thing, but the team as a whole is in a scoring funk right now.

If you ask me, they looked really tight last night. I wonder if they came into the game too serious based on the SC game. Once they get their rhythm back, they'll be fine.

Seriously though, the Jekyl and Hyde nature of this board is really entertaining at times.

I didn't think the foul was all that bad either, just a hard, conference-play foul. We about saw the Compton come out there.

To be honest I'm not seeing the ball movement that this team typically has. Usually the ball is flying around. It's easy to pick on him. If only there was some kind of method to help him relax.

Posting off the face of a d-3 player while up 10-20 points to try and beat 2 other cyclone players to the basket and get dunk doesn't tickle my fancy. If it does for you, more power to ya.

Competition tickles my fancy and he is competing so I am happy. I like the effort and don't worry about what happens to other teams players.

Lay off the guy! He had 9 rebounds (team high), 1 assist, 1 steal, and only 2 turnovers. He only had 6 points, but only took 7 shots all game. Niang and Long were worse today and Nader hasn't done jack in the past few games. Why does everyone want to pick on BDJ?

I agree he needs to tighten up the dribble. I would prefer for him to take that mid range jumper from the top of the key, as I have seen him make that more consistently. He can really elevate on his pull up jumper and I think he would be better to mix up his drives with his pull up jumpers to make him less predictable.

Either way, the whole team in general has been off. For a good 5-10 minutes in the second half we looked like we would ull away, but Ok. State caught fire at the same time. Still, a win is a win. Even more so in conference play.

This. He has a frustrating drive or two each game where he should kick it out, but so do Georges and Monte, and neither of those guys are singled out like BDJ every game.

Apparently, we have to eat our annual blame victim, no matter what they actually do.

The past couple of games, my frustration with Dejean-Jones reminded me of similar emotions I felt with a few transfer-starters in Hoiberg era, especially up to early/mid-January.

I'd loosely describe it as "tries to do too much/makes me nervous in half-court offense/has extreme upside but occasionally seems to hijack the 'team concept'":

* Chris Allen
* Korie Lucious
* Will Clyburn
* DeAndre Kane

For the most part, I had forgotten those frustrations by mid-February and beyond in each case.

Exactly. Let's talk in mid-Feb.

This was probably already said but I'm impressed with his nine rebounds and I seen one really good hustle play from him that was all effort for his team. The whole team looks a little out of sorts right now. He will be a big piece of the puzzle come tournament times. His best will come shortly.

I don't know about you guys, but I hated that play where he dove through three guys to get a loose ball and passed it out to safe the possession. What a lazy POS. And those rebounds? Don't even get me started. What is he doing grabbing the ball like that? Gosh.

Yep, plenty to like about BDJ last night, as well as some things that shouldn't be too hard to improve. For instance, do we really want to start the game with him taking a 3 from the top of the key before we work the ball around? Yet, it was open. Also, it seemed like he was taking an extra step and making an extra move on his drives in the lane. If he makes his decision a step earlier, I think he blows by the guy. It is almost like he expects the guy to back up rather than hold his ground in the lane. His slashing seems to work better on true breaks, not when they have 3 guys back on defense.

R E L A X

I'll be sure to bump this thread when he goes off for 25 and 12 against KU.

Did a guy in Minnesota just pull an Aaron Rodgers and tell us to R E L A X? Don't jinx BDJ with that. :smile:

Hahaha, hilarious! Skidoosh spent all football season telling people they aren't true fans and now it is happening to him.

Mods, I think this poster had a typo when creatitng his screen name. Please remove the "S", "K" and "I".

I guess I look it at as very similar to Chris Allen. Early on there was a lot to like but it was obvious he was pressing a bit and trying to learn just how Fred wants his offense run. By the end of the year Chris was playing at a very high level, and I expect the same from BDJ.
