BDJ

We need Niang and Long to play better. If they are the leaders on the team it is imperative that they are more consistent. They don't have to be studs every games, but they can't be awful like they have been the last couple.

BDJ doesn't look as confident or as explosive as he did earlier. Looks to me like people are still trying to figure out their roles now that McKay has joined the team and is arguably one of our best players.

My only negative thought on him is that he seems out of control when he brings the ball from half court and drives it in. He is a lot better when he catches it right on the 3 point line and drives but something about getting it further out than that he seems to lose control almost every time.

The team did a good job of getting it to the hot hand tonight. Unfortunately against South Carolina there was no hot hand.

It might be the three guys coming at him, head up Bryce.

I'm pretty critical of his play. Perhaps unfairly. Personally I cringe every single freaking time he drives in on 3 dudes and refuses to pass to the open trailing teammate or out for an open three.

Just like Kane always did.

I know you didn't mention Kane in your post, so this may not be directed at you, but it gets old when people keep saying "he's no Kane" or "we need Kane back."

People seem to be just remembering the good Kane. There were many many times last year when he would drive into the lane, and just throw something up or get blocked, then expect a foul call.

Everyone remembers his whole season, which he was great, but they forget about his dumb plays and bad games.

I agree, though I'd put a lot of money on the fact that it's the same people complaining about BDJ that were complaining about "bad" Kane.

I'm not going to read this entire thread is it BDJ love or BDJ hate? I'm hoping it's love because he was working it on defense, had a bunch of boards, and got down on the floor a few times.

IMO BDJ looked like he was ill...the guy had death on his face all night, if he was playing through something then it's all the more impressive.

I don't know about you guys, but I hated that play where he dove through three guys to get a loose ball and passed it out to safe the possession. What a lazy POS. And those rebounds? Don't even get me started. What is he doing grabbing the ball like that? Gosh.

Exactly. He wasn't feeling it offensively but he worked his butt off and helped the team in other ways.

Still not a fan of BDJ. Hasn't done much one way or the other.

He lost a lot of respect from me when he deliberately palmed a D-3 player in the face in attempt to get a lay-up.

If this gif is what you are talking about... my guess is you didn't start with much respect towards BDJ ... while aggressive and flying to the basket, isn't bad but isn't what we want either. Remember you started off your post "still not a fan"

I think he has brought the effort and intensity needed, that's really all you can ask of a guy.

His offensive game is in a slump, like the rest of the team. It will get there and he will be just fine.

We should appreciate the effort and intensity, and his raw athletic ability.

If we are going to call out BDJ (unfairly IMO), we better be calling out Niang as well.

Last 4 games:

BDJ - 9/22, 23 total points, 19 total rebounds, 8 TOs, 2/9 3 pt.
Niang - 13/35 (6-25 in last 2 games), 37 total points, 17 total rebounds, 12 TOs (9 in the last 2 games). 1/13 3 Pt.

Players can't stay hot for an entire season, they all go through slumps.

He also seemed to be engaged/encouraging while on the bench.

I'd say he's bought in.

Posting off the face of a d-3 player while up 10-20 points to try and beat 2 other cyclone players to the basket and get dunk doesn't tickle my fancy. If it does for you, more power to ya.

lolwut

BDJ is doing some good things beyond scoring. He rebounds, and when he is in position he plays good D, although he can get lost at times. I just wish he would attack the rim a little harder. He seems to always want to cross over or spin in traffic, and lately that has been an automatic turnover. I know the Kane comparisons get old, but I wish he'd be a bit more like him in that he just attacks the rim hard and looks to draw fouls. He has the ability and the athleticism to do that, but it just seems like he's intent on over dribbling, or pulling up from 17 feet.

What the heck?

I think the whole team is pressing too much on offense. Tonight Hogue and Thomas just let the ball fly and good things happened.
When they go in, the guys are just letting it fly. When they miss, the guys are pressing.

Ever heard of a give-n-go? Perfect place for one, really, but Monte went the other way for it.

Yeah, I would rather not see him push off like that, but I would say he was competing, which I like.

More concerned about Niang's play then BDJ. Niang's careless turnovers the last two games, and forced shots among 2 & 3 defenders has been infuriating. I was happy to see Fred bench him in the last 5 minutes of the game. Only brought him back for the last 30 seconds. Hope he learns his lesson because we need Georges at the top of his game.

First of all, he's not Kane...so let's let that go. This forum is bad about comparisons and it's really not fair or logical to do that.

I think BDJ has done a remarkable job of humbling himself a little bit. He's a smaller fish in a bigger pond here and McKay didn't make that any better...in fact, he's seen playing time dwindle substantially...and for a guy like him, where I think ego is fairly large, it's impressive that his body language and teamwork hasn't seemed to have diminished too much.

Last night he had a couple silly drives where he was out of control...but as others have said, Fred will correct that stuff.

Let's be honest, with the exception of a couple of games, our competition hasn't been stellar so let's give the guy an opportunity to play hard under some pressure. He may just surprise us. And, there will be a game where he'll save our *** and everyone will be like "BDJ for President".
