BDJ

At times, I think he is pressing a little on the offensive side of the ball trying to do too much, as opposed to letting the game come to him. That's not to say he is a ball hog by any means. And you have to like that he is still rebounding well.

I think the whole team is pressing too much on offense. Tonight Hogue and Thomas just let the ball fly and good things happened.

Honestly, there were a few times I wish he pulled the ball down and took it to the hoop instead of passing, but I like what he is doing.

I'm pretty critical of his play. Perhaps unfairly. Personally I cringe every single freaking time he drives in on 3 dudes and refuses to pass to the open trailing teammate or out for an open three.

Hypocritically to what I just said, I do get a bit of a chub when he has an amazing dunk from outside the lane.

I wish BDJ would get a few plays run for him early in the game to get him going. He does seem to force it once or twice a game, but seemingly only when he hasn't had a shot or really been involved in the offense for a while. He's too dynamic to let disappear in the offense.

Not trying to rip on Niang, but Georges is 6 for 25 in the last two games with 9 TOs and people spend their time complaining about Thomas (vs SC) and BDJ (this game). Weird.

No, he isn't Kane. However, it isn't his fault that we are shooting around 50% from the charity stripe. Fortunately the 3s showed up in the second half or there would be another loss. Thinking about the Iowa game makes me wonder about all of this BDJ chemistry talk... but I have no idea why it would be better without a great player on the court.

Is anyone else frustrated with him? I keep expecting a big performance or him to blow up but it hasn't come. He seems reckless at times and careless at others. There are definitely flashes of greatness, but not as much as were advertised. I'm not sure if he just hasn't bought in or if it's something else. I realize he's not Kane but I think we all sort of hoped he would be a leader in the same vain. I'm not giving up on him, I just think he needs to be big for us moving forward and I hope he gets it going.
Here we go again. Sick of BDJ being the whipping boy. Most didn't play well for most of the game. Thank you Thomas, Hogue, McKay, morris and Niang (the last shot). Where's a Nader, 3sus, niang? It's a deep team so the hot hand gets most of the opportunities. I agree that BDJ has been quiet but he's certainly not alone. Just the easiest target...I suppose

The past couple of games, my frustration with Dejean-Jones reminded me of similar emotions I felt with a few transfer-starters in Hoiberg era, especially up to early/mid-January.

I'd loosely describe it as "tries to do too much/makes me nervous in half-court offense/has extreme upside but occasionally seems to hijack the 'team concept'":

* Chris Allen
* Korie Lucious
* Will Clyburn
* DeAndre Kane

For the most part, I had forgotten those frustrations by mid-February and beyond in each case.

Can't judge him based on Kane. That's unfair to him and unfair to Kane. I doubt we'll see the likes of DeAndre again.

I thought BDJ was actually fairly good tonight. He was hustling out there and had 9 rebounds. His shot (like everyone else's) wasn't dropping. But he was solid.

He's just not nearly as effective in the halfcourt as he is in transition. The games have slowed down, and it's harder for him to get buckets and make plays. Early on in the year, he got lots of buckets in transition or semi-transition. He hasn't been particularly adept at playmaking in the halfcourt and so Hoiberg is still looking for good sets. Outside of Georges, there's really not much. Morris pnr worked pretty well against Iowa, but it's been a bit stale lately. That's why there was some sets run for Matt Thomas tonight. Hoiberg is looking for people that can consistently create offense. Hogue stepped up at the end. Didn't know he had that in him tbh. I'm not sure if that's something that can be consistently counted on. Hopefully Bryce can figure out his role in the halfcourt offense.

Have been frustrated watching him lately. Love his defense and rebounding but offensively hes in a funk. Needs a good game to get his confidence up. Same can be said about the whole team especially niang

My only negative thought on him is that he seems out of control when he brings the ball from half court and drives it in. He is a lot better when he catches it right on the 3 point line and drives but something about getting it further out than that he seems to lose control almost every time.

The team did a good job of getting it to the hot hand tonight. Unfortunately against South Carolina there was no hot hand.

No one is blaming him for anything or making him a whipping boy. I could have posted about Niang not playing well or Naz losing his mojo or Nader practically disappearing, but I think they are just having slumps. BDJ hasn't played well offensively in awhile. He's not beyond criticism.

Not sure why Nader didn't play in the 2nd half. I didn't think that he played that poorly. And BTW...Whar Edozy?

Well i think this team will improve greatly, bring McKay into the mix changes things and need more time to gel. I dont think we really need to worry.

People said the same thing about Kane last year. Went from seriously taking a game over, to excessive turnovers bullying his way around in the lane one too many times.

I think it worked out for him as the conference season progressed though. Just takes time.

This. He contributed with a few points and a lot of rebounds tonight. He will be fine, and I am glad he's not forcing the issue too much. Sometimes it comes down to match ups.

Hogue went beast no doubt but McKay shutting Nash down is probably the turning point.

As far as BDJ, he's just not making his offense happen in the half court set right now. Thats ok because for the first time in a long time I was begging for Niang to ride the pine. So many bad turn overs from him.
