Source: K.J. Bluford is transferring

I have a fairly good feeling Fred didn't think Bluford was a replacement for McGee. Hoiberg just got him because he could nab a guy for our scout team. No way Fred thought this guy would ever actually have an impact.

Yeah you're right, Bluford could never have been a McGee. I just find it interesting that Amardi was let go for Kane and not Bluford. Amardi was a better player than Bluford. Also, Kane comes in as a guard so it would make sense to drop Bluford since he was a guard. Just stinks that Bluford bailed on the team and that have Amardi on the bench would have been an asset at the end of the season, especially once Niang was out. Too many what if's.

Wasn't there a rumor about there being some weird timing issues with who was already on campus that led to them dropping Amardi instead of Bluford?

I still feel bad for Richard Amardi. Signed his LOI, Kane becomes available, then magically Amardi is the odd man out. See ya! Obviously, it worked out much better for us, but I would like to know Amardi's story about the whole ordeal.

Fred would never give a scholarship to a guy just for the Scout Team. Hey, even the Mayor misses sometimes. I think he thought we needed a shooter badly, and at that time we didn't know Naz would develop the way he was or that we'd add a stud G in Kane.

Bluford was playing early. He was just taking a lot of shots and not hitting them. His playing time dwindled and he transferred.

In hindsight I obviously would have rather watched Bluford leave and kept Amardi.

We just did not know KJ was like a bazooka shooting every 45 seconds like clockwork. He took it to heart from fred to have no boundaries when to shoot.

Obviously not a good situation. Fred knew he had to take Kane. But Fred also worked the phones to make sure Amardi had a landing spot. Oregon's a good team and Amardi was able to contribute there.

I think he knew he just wasn't as talented as the guys behind him and the only way he was going to get a shot was by putting up big numbers, and you don't do that by not taking shots. He took a calculated risk hoping more shots would fall and it just didn't work out.

Fred: Hey KJ, come here for a minute, please.
KJB: What's up coach, happy with all the shots I'm getting up? This green light thing is awesome!
Fred: Yeah...thats the thing. You haven't made a shot in 20 attempts, maybe try passing the ball once?
KJB: But coach, the green light.
Fred: That just doesnt apply to you anymore.
KJB: Sorry coach, them I'm out. There has to be some team that won't mind if I shoot 50 shots per game.
Fred: (stares off into space wishing he had Tyrus McGee back)

Also, a quickly put together photo of the encounter.

It was a gamble and a miss. NBD.

We feel K.J. is one of the best junior college shooters in the nation," Hoiberg said in a release. “He’s athletic, experienced and shoots with confidence. He will fit in perfectly in our up-tempo offense and we are looking forward to having him join our team."
