Source: K.J. Bluford is transferring

IAStubborn. I guess at this point I don't know what your point is. All it seems like you are arguing is the difference between an academic residency and a redshirt.

Bluford played a full season in 2011-12. He played a full season in 2012-13. He played a half season(first semester) in 2013-14. He will have to sit out for "academic residency" requirements from Jan 2014-Dec 20, 2014. He will play a half season(second semester) in 2014-15. He will play a full season in 2015-16. So he will play 3 full seasons and 2 half seasons for a total of 4 full seasons. He will sit out two semesters aka one season.

What don't you agree with in what I typed here?
He will not get 1.5 more years. You cannot play in 5 academic years. If he plays next season it will be his last.

Bluford has a max of one year playing time after he leaves. Playing the first semester one year and the second semester the next year counts as 2 years of eligibility. Same as a football player who plays the first 6 games one year and the last 6 games the following year.

Am glad it isn't just me, am tired of explaining this ad nauseum. If this is trolling effort by y-snow and Nallen I must say they have trolled well.

Here are two examples of players who transferred from ISU at semester - neither one got an additional year full year, only a 1/2.

Jessica Schroll - played 09/10, 10/11, 11/12 - transferred December 2011 after playing 10 games at ISU to Central Michigan University. Started playing as a SENIOR at semester 2012, and is no longer on the team as she exhausted her eligibility. She played 4 full years, over 5 seasons.

Emiah Bingley - played 12/13 at ISU, transferred in December 2012 after playing 7 games at Iowa State, now a SOPHOMORE at Florida State.

Bluford will be senior with 1/2 a year left to play if he transfers to another D-1 program.

We'll see.
Yes we will.
My gift to you, so at least you learn something from our discussion (note says 4 seasons not 8 semesters and all it takes is competing against anyone not on the team to burn a season):

SEASONS OF COMPETITION
Guidelines Regarding a Student-Athlete's Seasons of Competition

The accurate recording of student-athlete participation is critical for several reasons. Unless a waiver is applied for and granted from the NCAA, all student-athletes are limited to four seasons of competitive eligibility in each sport. Once these four seasons are used, a student-athlete is no longer eligible for intercollegiate competition in that sport. Additionally, accurate documentation regarding student-athlete participation is critical in obtaining a medical hardship waiver, should the need arise. A student-athlete utilizes a season of competitive eligibility if, at any time during an academic year, he/she represents the institution in competition against individuals not on the institution's team. This is true regardless of how that competition is classified or when it occurs. Therefore, a student-athlete who participates in any of the following has utilized one of his/her four seasons of competitive eligibility in that sport:A joint practice session;*orA scrimmage (other than intra-squad);*or An alumni game;*or An exhibition. Also, a student-athlete who does any of the following has utilized one of his/her four seasons of competitive eligibility in that sport:Competes in the uniform of the institution;*or Utilizes apparel or equipment with institutional identification;*or Receives expenses associated with competition of any type

I was wrong. I apologize. My bad.

I personally think that a player should be able to play the first semester of a season, and then transfer and sit out 2 semesters, and then play the second semester of the next season and have that only take away 1 playing year and 1 red shirt year. Not 2 playing years and 0 red shirt years. That's just my opinion though.

Again my bad. The whole McKay being a RS/Jr messed me up. But he is only a RS/Jr because he didn't play a minute at Marquette. I get it now. I'm a little slow. Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

You have 5 years to play 4. You can't play a year then stop eligibility for a few years then pick back up where you left off.

That part is wrong. If Bluford plays second semester next year, that's it for his eligibility. It will be his fourth season playing college basketball. The only way he can play another full year is if he sits out all of next season, assuming he hasn't already used a redshirt year, and plays again in 2015-16.
Maybe he can also work on his academics.

Bump.

Since other fairly irrelevant transfer threads are staying on the front page, I figured why not.

I always wondered why Bluford was kept on but Amardi was released from his scholarship. Seemed like Amardi was obviously a better player, though they played different positions, so I guess CFH felt he needed to keep Bluford as a potential McGee replacement.
