Pollard on KXNO

I don't think it's that tone-deaf of an idea. I understand Iowa State won't do it because that would be 11 bcs teams on our schedule, and Minnesota probably won't but I don't think it's a terrible idea.

You don't honor a player being killed in a game by playing the team that killed him as an anniversary tribute. Neither ISU nor Minnesota should consider that a good idea without regard to the 11 BCS team schedule part.

You could do a lot of things to honor the anniversary, but scheduling Minnesota for the game should not be one of them. Austria, Bosnia and Serbia didn't schedule parades along the 'assassination of Archduke Ferdinand' route to celebrate the 100th anniversary of that assassination this year, I don't think.

It is a terrible idea and MN would be idiotic to accept it. Nothing helps PR quite like the 100th anniversary of a man's death caused by your football team. Not going to happen.

Yea... I bet there was a parade to go with the... cultural and sporting events and the big concert from the Vienne Philharmonic.

That said... lets just replace Iowa on our schedule with Minnesota... problem solved.

Just a thought: Texas gives us permission to broadcast the game on our own network and then ISU is able to capitalize on the revenue from the advertisements. That is how we "get paid".

Does Mediacom offer the longhorn network? Could Mediacom be cutting ISU an extra check since the game will be available to them now without having to carry the longhorn network? But wouldn't it have been easier for ISU to refuse to play the game on the longhorn network?

There is something behind the scenes that makes this deal good for ISU. I just don't know what it is exactly.

Why would we agree to be on the Longhorn Network if they weren't paying us for it? Do they think it will drive that many Cyclones. TV subscriptions given streaming will be limited to people in Iowa?

Perhaps there is some financial benefit other than a direct payment from UT.

If there isn't a financial benefit, there must be some other reason to do it. If one wants to go down this path, one might ask if there is any bigger-picture longer-term benefit in building up good will or working with UT.

I guess it's not about subscriptions, it's about people watching another game on Cyclones.tv either way. Increase the brand of Cyclones.tv.

It absolutely blows for out of state fans but I guess he wants to go hard in the state.

Possible that we owe Texas from a previous deal? So technically we're not "getting paid", but instead we're paying back. Or it could be possible that there are future considerations involved that we're not getting paid right now but there is something working for the future.

Who the **** keeps asking about baseball?!?! Just give it up. It might be nice, but ISU will never even get close to having as much money as Texas and spending huge sums of money on baseball wont help that at all. Its not like we had some incredible baseball tradition that we lost.

Asking that question is worthy of a nut punch.

OK, admittedly it wasn't the best analogy...however, the celebrations you linked were in Bosnia, who shot him and got what they wanted, not in Austria, whose leader got killed.

Agreed. And I don't buy the family friendly atmosphere argument either. I would be really PO'd if you aren't allowed out at halftime and couldn't buy beer in the stadium

Seriously, you can't forego drinking for 3-4 hours without getting really ****** off?

For alcoholics and girls, football is an excuse to drink. With that in mind, probably not.

FIFY. But seriously, I was a fan of football WAY longer before I could drink, and I feel like that is probably the case with most guys.

I don't care either way on the booze thing, I can see both sides of it.

I think the current re-entry deal is a joke. I am assuming it stems from back when we were god-awful and no one would even go in the stadium if they couldn't re-enter. We are better than that now and the 3rd quarter atmosphere suffers from the rule.

Two points:
1. I would expect that in the end there will be 2-3 means of going over or under University. This was mentioned by a poster last winter and I can verify the post.

2. Pollard has hung tough on the alcohol sales. This statement is no different that one he has made many times.

My online KXNO wouldn't work - do we need to register or something now?

Dumb comment on alcohol sales. If 9 other Big 12 schools do it you know he'll do it, too. Never say never.

No alcohol in stadium just means the tailgaters drink more before going to the stadium and then finish up after the game.
