Not necessarily. Just noting that every football thread that isn't about Devron Moore is really an in-state rivals thread. If that's what the football threads will be, then move the whole thing where it belongs.
With this year's schedule? Not many. Iowa should start 10-0, easily. It will seem a lot like the 2002 season when Iowa played two Big 10 teams with a pulse and then rolled the rest of what was a super weak conference. UI lost to ISU in non-con and got rolled by USC in the bowl game. Nobody on the 2014 schedule will really put up a fight except maybe Wisconsin, and Iowa even gets them at home. Nebraska too. Like I said, against the easy schedule they have this season, there's no reason why Iowa shouldn't start 10-0.
The fact that there is a 10 page thread on the series itself shows that this series means something to these fanbases. You can deny it all you want, but there is nothing better than Iowa vs ISU rivalry week. The smack talk, debates, and aniticipation is awesome and I currently reside in Bellevue, Ne. There is nothing better than finding those pockets of ISU and Iowa fans out here in NE and just having fun with it. This series is alive and kicking and I personally would hate for it to come to an end especially with how competitive it has become over the last decade. Go Hawks!
I agree with you, but **** happens in football. There's no reason ISU should have lost to UNI last year, but they did. They shouldn't have lost the Texas game, but they did. Sometimes it just depends which way the ball bounces on certain plays. I think the Hawks have as good of a shot as they've ever had to start out 10-0, but that doesn't mean I think it's going to happen. I wouldn't be surprised if they figure out a way to lose a game or two they shouldn't.
well it is the offseason and people aren't too excited about the upcoming season and when that happens threads tend to veer off topic. There's a reason why the basketball forum is a lot more active even though basketball season doesn't start for another six months.

In this case, the threads were pretty clearly rivalry trolling, one from each side of things.
It's not a big deal. It's a pretty clear indication of the lack of excitement for football in general, but I think we knew that without the threads.
In the OP's defense, this thread made a lot more sense than whatever the hell that guy was posting about Bugs Bunny.

No idea if it has anything to do with it or not, but HN does kinda suck. I have no problem admitting that. It's a website, and it's pretty clear there's many more people posting here on a daily basis. As a Hawkeye fan, it makes me a little upset that Iowa message boards were busy all offseason following a pathetic 4-8 season, but then when the team has a nice turnaround the boards are a ghost town.
I suppose that's probably the same reason the news is always depressing. Doom and gloom is what people talk about. I think it gives us more to talk about as well. When things are on the up and up there isn't as much debate. It's more anticipation than it is controversy.

I doubt any non-Iowa residents would have a much different list.

Are you talking overall or right now? Cuz if you're talking right now your list is a joke. Michigan is way to high up there on your list, and Iowa is definitely ahead of Northwestern and Penn St.

Most predictions I've seen for the upcoming season have Iowa finishing #2 or #3 in the West.
If you are saying Iowa is currently behind Michigan and Northwestern you have no clue what you're talking about. You can make an argument for PSU and Nebraska. No way you can argue Michigan or Northwestern.

I personally enjoy talking on both 247 for Iowa and this site. It can get pretty repetitive in the offseason talking about the same stuff over and over. Talking with the instate rivals keeps life well informed and is just plain fun. Nothing better than debating and educating yourself on the rival football teams. I will never root for ISU unless they play Nebraska, but I always will root like crazy for all the local boys. That last sentence doesn't make much sense I know haha.
I think it would be fun to do an assessment of each program and where we think they stand in the conference currently. You will have the obvious homers and haters for each with the truth probably in between.

Luckily for Iowa over the next 6 seasons they only have to play those 3 bolded teams a total of 4 times and in 3 os those seasons they play none of them... and the earliest they will play at Ohio State is 2020.
I am positive that these idiots will still come rolling in here to puff their chests out that they took down mighty Rutgers and Maryland.
