Maybe this whole story is an elaborate way of telling the kids about him and Robin getting together. Maybe in 2030 something's happened with barney too. I mean sooooo much of the story (probably too much) has been about Robin.

Someone on reddit also caught another line that i didnt notice much at the time, when they were talking about how it might be the last time they were all together:
There's clearly something going on.... as this seems to not just reference the events around the wedding, but something currently going on with them as well.
This show has not been good for several years but I kept hanging on just to see it through. They have crapped on Ted so much the last few years, if they kill off him or the mother, I just will be royally ticked. Sure looks that way though. Crappy way to end a comedy.
They're gonna tug at the heart strings and have her pull through. I just know it.
Hope you are right. I have grown to hate Lily and Robin through the years, the mother is the only woman on the show I like.
How did people interpret the episode last night that the Mother dies? Either that flew over my head or I just missed it. I understand the theory from previous episodes but didn't see how last night's furthered that theory along.
With Marshall's dad dying and the Mother's fiance dying, I think there has been enough death and hope it doesn't end that way.

It has been said that the Final Scene was taped way back at the end of the First Season. I have a hard time believing that they had planned on having The Mother die so long ago.
Of course one thing that doesn't help this is the fact that The Mother can't be in this scene unless they CGI her in.

Actually the last half of this season has been pretty decent. Not "first half of the series good" but enjoyable.
I've never sat down and watched the series in its entirety and the only reason I do watch is because its my fiance's favorite show. I must say though, that thew few times that I've actually sat down and watched, I've enjoyed for the most part. I remember watching some of the first seasons and thinking what a goober Ted was, then there was some middle seasons where I thought he came off as a complete ******, and now he's just pathetic. He reminds me of one of my buddies who went through college single because his girlfriend all through high school broke up with him freshman year. Spent 4 years feeling sorry for himself...only Ted has spent something like 6 seasons crying over Robin.
The fact that he got choked up talking about "not coming to her own daughter's wedding." And the mother comforted him. :shrug:
When Ted and The Mother are talking about Robins mother showing up to the wedding, The Mother says "how could a mother miss her daughters wedding" Ted immediately tears up and she comforts him.
The theory is that The Mother is dying and will miss HER daughters wedding.
Also earlier in the episode she tells Ted that she doesn't want him to be someone who just "lives through stories", implying that after she's gone she wants him to live and be happy, not just sit around telling stories of what used to be.
I personally think they are waiting for test results, which is why they went on a trip. To take their minds off it so to speak. They will soon find out that her tests came back negative and she's going to be ok. They are tugging at our heartstrings, and making the people that have theorized all along that shes dead freak out.

I knew as soon as we started discussing this last episode that people who don't like the show would have to stick their nose in and tell us all how dumb we are for liking it.
Mind you business. Go start a thread for that awesome show that you like, which you liked before anyone else did because you're so freaking awesome.
Sorry for the rant. People just tick me off. There always someone that jumps into the Walking Dead thread and thinks it's hilarious to bust our chops for thinking logically about a made up show about zombies. **** OFF!
Wowzers. I wasn't ragging on you for liking the show because I do as well. I can admit though that it's just a really really bad show. I mean I got super addicted to the show and have seen every episode (excluding the newest season) but it's kinda like being addicted to cigarettes. They taste horrible and can be kind of okay when your drunk but for some reason you just keep coming back for more. It always seems like a great idea when you haven't had one in a while but then you smoke a whole pack (or power watch a whole season on netflix) and you feel like you just dramatically shortened your own life.
Nothing else to call her. Nobody has said her name yet and credits always list her as the mother. Apparently part of the hubbub over last night was a long-standing theory that the last shot of the show would reveal her name on a gravesite. Supposedly they taped the last scene years ago before the actors playing his kids got too old, and before they had anyone cast as the mother. Personally, I think that's a reach.
