is it just me or does this team

If we were taking shots between the paint and the 3 point line, you'd be complaining about why this team doesn't either try to drive it in under the basket, or take it out for the 3.

It's cyclical. For example, if the OP didn't make this thread, you'd surely find a different thread to complain about the OP complaining.

Sure its a great shot if you're good at it, but nobody on our team is. I think Isaiah Taylor torched us with mid-range pull ups, but he's not on our team.

OU torched us on the mid range jumper, as well, when we played them in Norman.

last night it looked like MT took two mid-range shots that were both floaters. That doesn't seem like a designed play based on MT's skillset.

I think that was more Thomas trying to get something going for himself than part of the doctrine. No design to it but I think he feels more comfortable in that middle range. I don't think Fred is especially pleased with him when he does it, but whatever it takes to get a spark.

I would have liked Long to pull up at the elbow or even a little closer rather than trying to go the rim on his drives. Getting to the rim isn't his game IMO.

Matt looks like he has a mid-range game when he fakes a 3-pointer, drives and tries to bank it in from the side. I'm assuming the shot goes in during practice and he has confidence in it. Just waiting for things to click for him so he starts shooting in games as reportedly does in practice. Saturday would be a good time to start hitting those.

I think he's just trying to get a more open shot. One of those things where when he hits it, he looks like a genius. When he misses, it's a bad shot.

As others have pointed out, the midrange area can be a tough area to score from. However, for some shots in that area, using a bank shot can significantly improve the percentage of shots made. However, for whatever reason, using a bank shot from midrange is typically not taught to young BB players.

If our offense is working the plan isn't to get a more open shot for yourself, it's to pass to someone more open. If no pass is available then drive to open a pass or go to the hoop, at no point is driving to open up a mid-range jumper in the normal set of options. We aren't leading the nation in assists because we're a "get your own shot first" team.

You look more genius feeding a waiting 3iang or 3sus than wobbling in a midrange floater or jumper.

Mid-range jump shooters have gotten a bad reputation in the new efficiency obsessed NBA. Does anyone know if Fred's offense is influenced by NBA concepts? I feel like an announcer might have mentioned something like that during a game...

At TCU also, very frustrating that he would pass up a shot from 3 from out front, but then ended up taking a long 2, and missing. Fire from 3, man!

I don't mind his nice head fake on baseline 3, and then driving for mid-range shot. He has just been a little unlucky, but that is a nice play.

Mid-range might be made at a slightly higher percentage than a 3-pointer but the pay-off is less. The expected gain (2 points) is not worth the risk involved (low percentage relative to a shot around the basket).

have zero offensive game between the paint and the 3pt line? watching us play OU, OSU and now WVU, it became clear that we almost never shoot a mid range jumper, and rarely ever actually make them when we do.

i guess it doesn't matter as long as we win. just doesn't seem like we even try the mid range game.

Fred hates deep 2's so the offense is designed to get in the lane or behind the arc. Guessing someone else has already said this but I didn't wanna read all the posts

I think Ejim and Niang are the only ones on the team with the green light to shoot mid range jumpers. Matt will shoot that 9 footer, but that is more of a floater.

You forgot to use the comic sans sarcasm font, MNCyGuy.

Fred prefers layups, dunks, and threes over the mid range shots. It is a percentage game.

I watched Thomas play during the Cap City league games last summer and he absolutely would nail those mid-range floater shots. Now, granted the competition between Cap City and the Big12 is an apples to aircraft carrier comparison, but I'd expect him to get this going again in the future
