ISU - KU postgame. We won the 2nd half!

i agree with the most about bad matchups. the thing about kansas, is their posts require so much attention that it leaves wide open guys for three. we simply can't go without double teaming arthur. that leaves perimeter guys wide open and they don't miss when they're open. i will say, i loved the effort and grit tonight. we played them tough in the second half and maybe if we get a shot at them in kc we can pull the upset. they say the 3rd times a charm.

Re: ISU MBB player break down following KU game (LONG)

I agree with everything except that Wesley defends better at the 4. He got abused a couple of times and in my opinion doesn't defend the post any better than Brackins.. Offensively, it really doesn't matter if he is labeled a 2,3 or 4, he still does the same thing. Yes, he had a good scoring night while playing the "4", but he has had games just as good while playing the "2". My hope for next year is that he can guard the 3 and possibly small power forwards. I thought he did a fairly good job on Rush when he was guarding him most of the first half. Wes just struggles defending quick guards but does well against taller, slower guys.

Just got back from the game a few minutes ago. That reverse layup by Jiri was AWESOME. It was frustrating to watch, but Garrett looked good and Kansas looked like men out there. The refs let them play a little too much early on.

I was thinking during the game, KU has like 8 Mcdonalds AA, only 8 ISU players still with the teams had a scholarship at the start of the season. This team is getting better and doing it with different combos of players. I hope they can get a few more wins this season for the Srs, to show they are making progress, and to pay for their hard work. This team needs another shooter that can score 10-12 pts a game. Holding KU to 75 is very good. Just to bad this ISU team cannot get into the 75 area every game.

Very good observations. How true! We haven't gotten over 70 most of the season.

If ISU could get to 75 they would have been in most every game. That is why another player that can score 10-12 pts would be huge for this team.

Just keep seeing these Kansas homer refs in Hilton every year. Hmmm.

We had several close 3 misses by SH - they almost went in. Wesley came close a couple of times. If we had made 3 more 3s, woulda, coulda, mighta. CB needs to improve on defense. He was beat pretty much every time tonight.

At one point they were shooting only 45% and yet we were at 36%.

Wes was on fire w/3's tonight - it was good to see him feeling better.

It was sad that there were so many people who left before the game was over - it was an earlier game than normal!

I totally agree. I hate those people who leave the game 4 or 5 minutes early to go beat the traffic. It just looks bad on the rest of us. It needs to stop. I think we need to put seat belts on the seats and you shouldn't be able to take them off until after the game.

I can't figure that the team feels very good about looking up into all of those empty seats, either - they're already down about losing, but nobody cared enough to support them to the end. There have been a couple of times when I've had to leave for various reasons, but not just because I didn't care about the end. I just feel bad for the team.

We played alright. I honestly think that Kansas is the toughest team for us matchup wise in the Big 12. Next would be A&M.

Much of the same. We had solid D (most of the time) but just can't score enough. We settle for long jumpers while Kansas is pounding it down low and getting close looks at the basket. Brackins looks frustrated and needs to have a good game in one of the last games to help him see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Garrett looked great and made me add 1 or 2 more wins to next year's prediction from this game alone!

You're right. I went to my first game since moving back to Iowa. First, the players look smaller and the court bigger on TV and the opposite is true live. That said, Kansas has unbelievable athletic talent. Their big men are amazing to watch live off the ball. Gifted. Not to mention they are 4 deep at the post. Wes was mismatched all night down low. I was upbeat about the coach and the team after watching. Our guys play HARD. They could move more on offense but they give effort. We were outmatched, as we've been alot this year, and hung around. Is it enough. No. But as I've said before, Garrett and Brackins was a really solid recruiting effort. We need some shooters to get passes off penetration. I came away from Hilton - scared I might slip in the ice in the parking lot - and generally pleased with the state of our program. I still think KU is the best team in the 12.

I was proud of the people that did stay behind... but I fully agree. Too many people leave to "beat the traffic". I fully admit to leaving my seat early, but I position myself to be near the exit I want to get to just before the game ends, so I have minimal crowds to wade through.

I noticed the KU fans on the north end of the nosebleeds tried to start the Rock Chalk chant, but I'm glad they didn't try to be too obnoxious about it. Does anyone know what the Kansas reaction to the game is like? Are they happy they won, or are they upset that we came back in the 2nd half?

I think we looked pretty good. Diante was GREAT, he was so calm and totally broke that one dudes ankles, too bad he didint hit the shot.

I have to hand it to Self though, he coached a great game. Great use of timeouts and we had NO answer for the weave. He knew we would switch all the screens so they just kept weaving untill they got a matchup they liked and it put us in a bad position.

Overall, decent game, good job by Diante, Craig looked ok in the second half...

There are usually a lot of visitors in 208 (I'm in 207) - there were these two annoying guys who stood up and gave freaking high-5's all through the first half. They didn't do it at all the second. :biglaugh:
