Fan since 1963

These are great points. I guess if I am a salesman, my sales pitch would not be his. "Hey I have these widgets, we expect them to perform great we just dont expect them to perform great every year, how many do you want, please buy?"

**** you're dense.

Will always be a Cyclone fan. Will always be a Steelers fan. (Yes, this year's combination of CFB & NFL have been brutal & my liver is going to suffer). Have always been a Kansas City Royals fan (which I think is worse than putting down I was a Cubs fan). Will be until I'm 6 feet under dirt, dust in the wind, whatever.

However, that does not change the fact Rhoads has commented on how he views his position as a CEO. As a CEO after this season, if large changes are not made then I will have a problem. Regardless of the industry or setting, I'd rather go with a leader of an organization who surrounds himself with people having more talent, more intelligence, or both than he possesses. Which coaches within the entire staff would we all be comfortable in saying this about? Can anyone imagine Mess blowing up and moving on to greener pastures/larger pond or (heaven forbid) eventually becoming the head coach in Ames?

Watching the last Paul Rhoads' Show & seeing Walters ask CPR questions, in particular on mentioning the fan support that day, it was impossible for CPR to hide or mask his true feelings. Anger, disgust, frustration all flashed across his face. Right now he is hunkering down & rallying the troops best he can & attempting to pull out of the season whatever he can. We need a focus on the offensive side of the ball & someone with legitimate talent in developing quarterbacks. We need full-grown men on both sides of the line of scrimmage who play with attitude & an edge.

We are missing that attitude factor. We saw it at UT game and parts of the Tulsa game. George, Knott, Wash, Wimberly and Woody and Irving have the right attitude. Waiting for many others to get more attitude before we win.

No matter how you pamper it, its a slap in the face to those fans that have followed the plan.

Jesus, just quit.

You are wrong AGAIN and you got called on it AGAIN and now you try to spin it into a bash on the ad/coach AGAIN.

So much for always being positive. Took less than an hour. Just can't help yourself

All of this aside, I am interested in the username "GWad."

At the same time you cannot be out there telling me the Honda Civic you are selling is gonna turn into a Lexus or a Tesla. If you believe that you will be in for a huge disappointment.

Nothing wrong with expectations, as long as you can accept the pain that unreasonable expectations are going to bring.

I get where Pollard is coming from on this, if he is out there saying the program should win 9 or 10 on a consistent basis HCPR should have been axed after last year.

Like it or not sometimes people need to get a reality check. And the reality its Ames Iowa, not Ames Texas, not Ames California, not Ames Florida. Its the northern most school in a conference that has 6 of its 10 members located in or on the border of the largest high school football factory in the country. It has no true rival within its conference. The closest major conference schools are 3 Big Ten schools sitting to its West, East and North.
It plays in a state with a small population, and limited division 1 talent which it shares with a Big Ten affiliated university that has had moderate success over the year. Look on a map, I would bet that aside from WV, Iowa State is the only school in the nation where we do not have a conference affiliated school on the border of our state. (Talking major conferences ) How F'd up is that? I mean you trying to go into these states to recruiting knowing if they come to ISU they will never play against schools they are familiar with.

It hot and humid in the summer, its cold snowy and windy in the winter. And lately it seems to flood every other year:-)

So tell me again what kind of advantages ISU has so it can consistently win 9 games a season year in and year out? I am all ears. Because 85% of the programs in the country do not win 9 games a year, year in and year out.

I feel Gwad's pain, but not his outlook. I'm 54 years old and have been following ISU football since I saw Luther Blue return a kickoff for a TD against Kansas State when I was 11 years old. Johnny Majors and Clyde Williams Stadium days. That said, I came into this year expecting 3 - 5 wins with hope against hope we could get to six and go bowling again. We have not done as well as I had figured and I was shocked at the UNI and Baylor games.

Given that, I still think we're looking at a damned good team in 2014 and even better in 2015. That's assuming Rhoads doesn't lose these kids through this. I just believe that a lot of things conspired against our success including realingment scares, lack of facilities, etc... but have an undying faith and optimism that things will get better - and soon. I will be surprised if we don't get three wins out of this season. Even as big of a trainwreck as it is, that would still hit the bottom end of my expectations and given the injuries...

I loved the David and Goliath post somebody made in one of the multitude of threads diagnosing our problems. I am awaiting the day when I can be inspired. I believe it will happen, happen soon, and that Rhoads is the guy that will do a good job of maintaining it.

He's taken a big and calculated gamble with his recruiting approach. We'll see if my faith has been misplaced.

I'm surprised no one has come into this thread and claimed to be a fan from 1962.

This is a great point. Most on this board pooh-poohed Mizzou and Nebraska leaving the Big 12, saying "don't let the door hit ya," blah, blah blah. The reality is that it has hurt us. I have always said recruiting to ISU is not easy, and now the isolation of our school relative to other conference members make it even harder.

Well, I started humming a song from 1962

I know you!
